AP Poll is out: OSU #1, TCU #2, Gophers get no votes

44 teams got at least 1 vote. Crazy we didn't.

Votes for Penn State and Michigan?! Bwahaha! You missed the mark on this first poll, AP......missed the mark by a lot.

Just makes it easier to play with the "We don't get any respect" chip on our shoulders. Gonna be fun showing the rest of the country what we're made of.

I f-ing hate Nebraska. How the f did they get any votes and we get none? College football is a clique and we are not part of the popular crowd.

There will be respect at the end of the game. The Gophers will be ranked after they beat the soon to be former #2 team in the nation.

Guess this is proof we're overrated....

We got some chances to shock the world. Beat the preseason #1 & #2 and the rankings will be there.

I think this should get give people pause about our Gophers. As always, 7-5 should be celebrated success.

They got so few votes the poll really doesn't say much about them. Since the vast majority of voters didn't vote for Nebraska or Minnesota they might have put us around 30 and Nebraska 50 if they didn't stop at 25.

Good point. It just fluffed my feathers! ;-)

I'm missing your point?

The voters already ranked 45 teams and we are not one of them. Nebraska is #34. The teams getting votes stopped at 45. So right now we are in a tie for 46th with a lot of folks.

There are 61 voters. A maximum of 6 voters put Nebraska on their ballot. The other 56 might put the Gophers ahead of Nebraska if they kept ranking teams.

When ever one of these polls come out I always wonder AP writers, don't we have a few here in Minnesota? Just how did they vote?

Any poll before half the season is played is pretty dumb in my opinion.

I would rather the playoff people not release a poll and pick four at the end of the year like the basketball committee does.

No votes until week 2. Then there will be a lot.

The AP poll has zero impact on the playoff.

Outside of some of the top schools it is foolish to put much of any stock in a pre-season poll because there is so much unknown from year to year in college football. While I am a little surprised we got zero votes no one should really assign much value to it. The preseason polls are really just there to help the networks promote the early season games.

The downside to a preseason poll is that sometimes you get an average team ranked highly that doesn't drop due to an easy schedule and there initial position in the polls. But overall they are meaningless.

I agree, but only to a point. If a team is ranked in the pre-season poll, and keeps winning, it stays in the poll. But, if a team is not rated in the pre-season poll, then it has to win and keep winning, and higher-rated teams have to lose in order for a team to move up into the rankings.

It may not mean much in real world terms, but in terms of perception of your program, given a choice between being rated or not rated, you would prefer to be rated.

And, if the Gophers lose to TCU, I suspect they would have to rattle off a bunch of victories in a row to have any chance of being a top-20 team by the end of the season.

I've said it for years, but it doesn't matter when any poll comes out if there are voters involved.

If I'm a voter and I know that the poll won't be released until after week 4 or 5, I still have a list going with "my" top 25 starting now, and I'll adjust it until they ask me to release it. That would be the same list, and it would change with wins and losses whether it was released or not.

Y'all have some legit SOS this season. That will help on the back end.
