ESPN: Top Minnesota position battle (long snapper)

Dave Ramlet was the team's snapper on field goals and PATs, and he was so good that you've never heard his name. He graduated. Jared Hartman, who snapped on punts, decided not to use his last year of eligibility because he already had his civil engineering degree. Probably smart to start work in that field instead of getting rammed into after snapping every Saturday.

So the Gophers enter this season without a player who has performed a long snap in a game.
 


Yeah probably could've rolled with lb or ol and actually made it seem like they cared

If college is like high school you can't can the center. My junior year in 1995 you could senior year 1996 you could't. No wonder i don't have kids knowing i had the big boys crushing my balls in 1995.[emoji22]
 

I was thinking this is phoning it in, but the optimist in me is hoping that this is really our biggest positional concern. If so, I think we'll be happy with this season.

I gotta say, I wish Iowa's top position battle was for the LS position. Count your blessings (and your points -- I think you scored again).
 

The writer was too lazy to do the research for WR or TE.

When your top returning TE has a total of 8 career catches (Pslik) and your top wr has 33 (Maye), one thinks these positions must be up in the air.
 

The long snapper is an important position. And if you walk into a season with exactly ZERO experienced long snappers on the roster, that qualifies as the biggest question mark to me.

Our new LS's first collegiate snap will be on national TV against the #2 team in the country. I think it might be significant.

I can dream, it will probably be a 3 and out after Leidner takes a sack.

Based on last season, isn't it possible a different player would be out there for each of your scenarios? In that case, we might have two players making their debuts at a position that only gets noticed when you screw up. Yikes.

Huh? This is the opposite of laziness. It would have been lazy for them to just put MLB and have no idea that there was a long snapper battle. I applaud them for going outside the box. And TE seems pretty set. Duke and Psek will start at H and Y, Lingen and Wozniak will back them up.

Seriously? Like the writers, I am too lazy to look but I bet you two thirds of the Big Ten has new long snappers.
