per Sid:

Now that Norwood Teague is out as Gophers athletic director, a one-year contract extension for football coach Jerry Kill can be finalized once one hurdle is cleared — a raise for his support staff that can be worked out with University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler.

Kill’s contract negotiations have been going on since January, when he thought school officials had agreed to raises for the support staff, then backed out of making that possible.

Kill’s current contract, which was extended in February 2014, called for the head coach to make $1.5 million dollars per season through a base salary of $600,000 and supplemental compensation of $900,000 for his media appearances, fundraising, community involvement and endorsement deals. Kill also received retirement contributions of $600,000 for 2014, $700,000 for 2015, $800,000 for 2016, $900,000 for 2017, and $1 million for 2018.

Go Gophers!!

This is getting ugly, why would Kill agree to a one year contract after getting jack around by the U. If I was Kill I would demand a three year extension, raises for the staff ( to get at least up to the mid point in the Big Ten ) and major say in the new AD! I know JK wants Dan O'Brian as his new AD. Here's hoping that he gets what he wants or just watch him move on! Oh, by the way, the FB facility better be under construction by Oct. Just know the U is going run Jerry off....

wait til the investigation committee hears that Jerry requires a moment of silence before practice. you'll be amazed at what is considered harassment when you see the full report.

You know you are reading Gopher Hole when the referenced article says "Teague Departure Should Benefit Kill" and the first response says "This is getting ugly."

Let's be honest here, this is not a new song. As a FB follower since 72 it has been a desert out there ( Mason was a mirage). Kill has finally shown a light at the end of the tunnel only to see the U administration play games with support & pay. Time is running out!

What the frick!? One year!? They need to make sure that Kill is kept here for the rest of his career. But he's only one dude. We need to make sure that his coordinators are well compensated. They've done an incredible job and we'll take a hit if/when they leave.

It's a 1 year extension on what he currently has? What is the length of the current contract? I hope that Coach Kill and his entire staff are here for many more years for selfish reasons, but I think strategically just rolling over a 1 year extension is a good thing for them as a group of coaches. It gives them the leverage they need to get to the point the entire group is paid what they need to be. If they agreed to say a 3 year extension, that would likely make the buy out more expensive should Coach decide to go elsewhere.

I think you see a year extension to the point that the entire staff is getting paid properly, and the facilities start becoming a reality. Then you will see a push for longer extensions. Coach is a very smart man and he has the proper leverage and will keep the odds in his favor. Like a great poker player, don't show all your cards and keep the dealer on his toes.

He got a one year extension last year through 2018.

it goes like this....

the investigation is rolled out and everything else takes a back seat. Coaches do not like being told to make a 2:30 meeting on a friday and cancel the trip to be in Dallas to meet with a kids parents.
