per KSTP:

The Board of Regents has ordered an independent investigation into the University of Minnesota’s Athletics Department, according to Regents President Dean Johnson.

The investigation will be conducted by an outside firm. It was agreed to by President Eric Kaler.

Go Gophers!!

Story says the investigation could take 3-6 months. I could absolutely see the Board of Regents using the ongoing investigation as a reason to push back their vote on the facilities project in September.

I don't see this as a reason to delay. The "U" needs some positive news other than a resurgent football team that is. I say they move forward with the vote and get the facilities started.

My prediction is the same as yours. This will not delay the vote on facilities project. Believe they will be handled by the Regents as two completely separate matters.

Yawn. All harassed women who can document they asked him to stop without it stopping should speak up. If there is documentation that management knew this was occurring and their is no documentation that he would face consequences like being fired, then those directly responsible for him should be let go. It is simple and I predict this is over, Kaler had no direct knowledge before we did.

You did it, Chip! Your column forced the U's hand!

No offense but when is any of this stuff ever simple and quick? These investigations are never quick and they tend to drag on forever. It may or may not impact the timing of the vote but I'm just saying I won't be surprised if it ends up being given as a reason to push it back. Hopefully I am wrong, and everything gets moving. The sooner the better because as someone else mentioned in this thread the U could definitely use some good news right now and announcing the start of a large scare facilities upgrade would certainly qualify as good news.

I don't know if this will delay construction or have other negative consequences, but you're a delusional rube if you think this situation including the investigation is no big deal. Sure, it will blow over in time and we might even get a better AD as a result. In the meantime, the recently departed face of our athletic department has embarrassed the U resulting in a lot of bad press (some of it undeserving) and made us the target of several jokes. You can say this is no big deal but the rest of the world paying attention to this story sees it differently. It hasn't blown over yet and it can't happen soon enough. I'm really hoping the results of this investigation starts and ends with Teague!

I predict, that unless there's an internal candidate, the AD position will not be filled until the investigation is complete.

Re: the job search. It would make for an interesting dynamic if they were trying to hire a new AD during the investigation. I can imagine a lot of people being reluctant to take the job without knowing the outcome of the investigation, including any punitive/corrective action. My gut tells me Beth Goetz is going to be carrying the "interim" title for a while.

I can't count the number of times I've felt optimistic about some Gopher team, player, game, coach, development, etc. and then been basically kicked in the balls. Same feeling again. God damn Norwood--you, slime ball.

We'll see. One man does not make a project of this magnitude. He was more of a figurehead on the facility project. Yhe real brains are still on the job, including the current AD.

Can totally see the facility project stopped in its tracks along with the alleged promised donations based on this investigation and the Title IX investigation on going.

Interim AD Goetz will have her hands full as I can see those non-revenue sports that had a seat at the the big table under Maturi and apparently lost that seat under Teague trying to maneuver themselves into a position of power within the athletic department once again.

This seems to be a case of the classic over correction coming.

If the facilities project gets pushed back it's because the issue of track facilities has not been addressed. The sole blame for that is Teague especially when it seems to have been the genesis of the Title IX complaint.
