Just got back from the new Bad Ax bar and restaurant in Nisswa. Some UMAA members were sitting back to back from us and the facilities conversation wasn't good. Apparently we're miserably stuck at 70 million according to one person. The Regents have a September meeting and they were saying "only" a ceremonial ground breaking with no real target date. There are some corporate donors lined up, but they aren't pulling the trigger due to tax deadlines. ( the new tax year?) I turned around and introduced myself and asked if they had any feedback from Coach Kill and staff. They said Kill has been very patient, but is some what perplexed after what was supposed to be an August start date. I hope this doesn't turn into a total goat f--k.!

Based on what they were saying these people do not have the inside scoop. UMAA wouldn't know anything more than the public anyways.

But thank doG we have a new thread to discuss it.

Please move this, mods.

Don't shoot the messenger. I would they're more informed than "Joe Public"

No one is shooting the messenger. They are shooting the message. And rightfully so. Come one Ruppert, don't post random stuff such as this simply just to stir the pot and drum up merely speculative conversation. I try to give you the benefit of the doubt most of the time then you go and post unsubstantiated stuff such as this. But can't this time. Smh.

P.S. I am a member of my university alumni association and have no clue or special inside information when it comes to donations, fundraising for campus facilities, etc. So I think you are reaching quite a bit by placing so much trust in what are likely just the strong "opinions" of two random UMAA members you just met at a bar.

Cheers!

I'm a member of the UMAA. These two gentlemen from what I gather work for the UMAA in some capacity. I should have clarified that in the OP. If it was a general conversation from two U of M guys I would have never posted it. These two gentlemen and their wives were not tanked and the conversation didn't come across as pure conjecture.

Ruppert, this reads like pure conjecture on your part. Pure goat f'ing conjecture.

FWIW I took it as Ruppert just passing along some things he heard. My blood pressure did not change.

Much of what is posted on this board is conjecture.

heard it in a bar - Mary Lou Retton was abducted by aliens and when they returned her, she was a dude!

Didn't mean to shoot ya by any means Ruppert. I'm just saying that the conversation you overheard was not from anyone in the know. People who work for UMAA would have no inside knowledge, and based on what they were saying they most certainly don't.

More importantly ruppert, what did these insiders have to say about wisconsin?

On the other hand, if Ruppert had "overheard" a discussion about fund-raising - and they were talking about how well the fund-raising was going, and all the big gifts that were rolling in - I dare say people on this board would be proclaiming the "great news," and not questioning the validity of the information.

What???....that never happens around here.....you must be thinking of a different message board.

I have no knowledge beyond what the rest of us have but at this point it doesn't look all that promising that construction is going to start this year. The project will happen but the timetable seems almost certain to be pushed back given that the regents aren't even going to vote on anything until September and even if approved it takes months to get all the ducks in a row and for a construction project of this size to really get going. Factor in Minnesota weather and next spring feels to me like the earliest things could get underway if there are no more bumps in the road.

But that is all just a guess on my part based on what we know to this point. How it all plays out in the end could go any number of different ways.

Otherwise known as the Tom Dienhart Effect.

Stop for a second and think about how long it took to raise the money and get approval for TCF Bank Stadium. The fist proposal was in 2001 and we didn't get enough money together and get legislative approval until 2006 and it was a close shave at the end. In two years we're close to funding this thing and gaining approval. Some people have put up some roadblocks to try to have their grievances addressed but we should be able to sidestep those and move forward.

Apparently we are not miserably stuck on $70 million. Ask Beavcoon.
