Sunday Night

Selection show for NIT is always on Monday, if I'm not mistaken.

Sunday 03/15/2015 8:30 PM Division I Men's Basketball - NIT Tournament - Selection Show (32 Teams) ESPNU Selection Show
First games are Tuesday

Looks like Pitino and Deandre agree with what I said. No CBI. They deserve to go out on a higher note than that. BTT or NIT are suitable ways to wrap up the season, CBI is not. Maybe in your world though.

If they take a CBI invitation it will be used against us by the local media and probably in recruiting. Better to quietly go away than play in the CBI. Imagine listening to Dan Barreiro if we won the CBI. Imagine listening to him if we lose in the CBI. Nothing good would come of it.

You have absolutely no evidence to substantiate a claim that playing in the CBI would hurt recruiting. You just have an opinion here that you're trying to bolster with unsupportable BS. That probably works occasionally with some of the young dummies you might hang with in your daily life but it won't work with more logical and discerning people.

Playing in the CBI two seasons ago didn't hurt Texas' or Purdue's recruiting last year. Penn State played in the CBI last year and landed two four star recruits this year (pretty unusual for them). Texas A&M played in the CBI last season and landed a 5 star and three 4 star recruits this year.

Here's a rule of thumb to follow: there is no upside to talking nonsense.

They'll take Michigan over the Gophers. Maybe Penn State too if Nitts win one more.

Bring on the CBI!

I agree that Michigan at this point deserves to go over the Gophers but Carolina is the only .500 team I can recall them taking since the NIT went to 32 teams. There is a decent possibility that they won't take either the Gophers or Michigan and no one could complain much about that. Penn State should be selected if they win one more.

I have to imagine Penn State and Illinois will be ahead of the Gophers, if Michigan gets in to the NIT I don't see the Gophers making it. CBI would be good for next years team though, the extra playing time for Konata and Diedhiou would be valuable, I can see the seniors not wanting to play, focus on the underclassmen then.

It might be, but Pitino would really look like a schmuck if he accepted a CBI invite after stating that he is 95%-99% sure that he wouldn't accept one.

BS. He was asked an unfair question at an emotional time.

Let him take it up with his team, and go from there.

A toss-up whether we get a NIT bid. If we do, there won't be any home games. I'd like to see major minutes go to the non seniors. EDIT-that's if we get a bid of course.

We are eligible for the NCAA and the NIT. That's 100 teams. That should be it. The CBI and whatever should be reserved for the small conferences. The major conference teams should not play in it.

Well that's if you listen to Dan Barreiro....

He could have said there was a 2% chance...

That's just absurd. If they would be embarrassed by playing in the CBI, then they should really be embarrassed by the non-conference schedule they played after the early season NIT tournament. Virtually all of the CBI teams would be better than those teams.

If you think it's embarrassing because accepting a CBI invite means you're no good, well, duh. They're no good with or without going to the CBI.

Well said.
If they want to be embarrassed about something it's their non-conference schedule.
I get that a lot of other teams do the same thing, but I have a lot more respect for a team that throws in just a couple more Big 6 schools to warm up for the Big Ten season.
December schedule was pathetic.

I checked the NIT brackets for the last 4 years and the RPI rankings for those years at the selection date to see how power conference teams ranked in the #88-#97 range fared in terms of being selected for the tournament. Based on that record, the Gophers' chance of being selected in that range aren't that bad. 7 power conference teams in that range were selected and 6 were not. On a side note, Iowa was selected as a #7 seed in 2012 with a 17-16 record and an RPI ranking well above #100. They must have had some insider influence.

Defending champ status play into it at all?

Lunardi says Wyoming knocks IU out. IU and Illinois would be ahead of us for sure. If Michigan is as well, we're out.

Wyoming could just as easily knock out Boise State. Michigan has a losing record against D1 teams (they have one win against a DII team). I still think we have a shot but any more NIT automatic qualifiers probably would be a more adverse development than Wyoming's tournament win.

I just looked at 4 NIT bracketology outlooks. Most updated yesterday. 3 had us in, one even as a 3 seed, which gives us a home game. Interestingly, the one that had us out, had Florida in with a below .500 record. Personally, I think we get in and I hope coach lets the kids play as much as possible.

I agree that we get in I think we end up a 4 or 5.

I hope they make the NIT. If not, I hope they play in the CBI. As much as I want this season to just be done - the extra experience/practice for Gaston, Konate, Mason, Buggs would be beneficial. I don't care want Burrito or anyone else on the radio would say. If the players think they're above it, maybe this would teach them some humility and make them work a little harder in the upcoming seasons to make the Big Dance.

Indiana getting in helps us. I still think it's less than 50/50.
