Mixed feelings, but part of me hopes they do not. I can't watch the seniors any more.

I got the confidence we will but probably as a 7 or 8 seed. I really hope we do though. We have to cheer for all the #1 seeds in the mid major tournies.

Should the Gophers not make the NIT, they should turn down the CBI invitation. Teams like the Gophers, under any circumstances, should have no business playing in a tournament like that.

Totally agree with gameday. No reason to play in the CBI NIT or bust.

Disagree. Get some more playing time anywhere. I still have interest in our Gophers, even if some of you don't.

But then, I am old and may not be around next year.

The more additional games we can get, the better. It's an opportunity to give younger players more playing time, and an opportunity for them to improve.

Who said I'm not interested. You don't send the seniors off playing their last CBB games ever in meaningless games against teams like Utah State, Akron, etc. in front of crowds of 1,000 or so. Not the right thing to do. It's an embarrassment.

Maybe not an embarrassment to them. Embarassment for you maybe.

While obviously not the greatest source, Doogie has stated confidently on the radio the past two days that the Gophers would turn down a CBI invite. I don't think the Gophers make the NIT.

Agree totally. Not sure what would cause more damage to recruiting--wrapping the season up now or letting other schools point out that, "Wow, they played in the CBI."

Do we not get the practice time if they don't go to the cbi? I'd just like gas bakery and Buggs to go if we could?

Obviously seniors wouldn't practice. But is there a period of time where Richard can work with the returning players even if we are out of contention?

Couldn't we accept a CBI invitation, play with a lineup of Mason, Buggs, Konate and Diedhiou and never let them rest? Just tell them not to foul. Get those game minutes and nobody will make (as much) fun of us for playing 4 on 5 through the tournament!

Agreed. Next year, with 4-6 freshman, I might buy the CBI. But not this year.

That's just absurd. If they would be embarrassed by playing in the CBI, then they should really be embarrassed by the non-conference schedule they played after the early season NIT tournament. Virtually all of the CBI teams would be better than those teams.

If you think it's embarrassing because accepting a CBI invite means you're no good, well, duh. They're no good with or without going to the CBI.

It's also not good optics to lose thousands of dollars playing said games while begging for $ for a practice facility.

OK, that's a point, but if the athletic department could afford hundreds of thousands to cancel playing UNC in football they could afford the CBI.

I'm ready to be done for this year. I'd rather dream about winning the Big Ten West than watch any more of this.

Yeah, and they need that little fiasco not being brought up again, which this would prompt...

Didn't they recover most of that money with the TCU series? I remember the loss being offset by an unexpected turn.

Gophers will get an NIT invite. I will root for them and, despite the deserved disappointment, salute and thank the seniors. In my opinion, nobody on the team ever quit and that is admirable.

No, not entirely or even mostly, though they tried to spin it that way. To say nothing of the fact that the UNC game didn't prevent them from playing TCU.

I hope so. I think it's 50/50 at best. Illinois and Michigan are ahead of us and there aren't as many at-large spots.

Michigan will lose tomorrow and that will give them a 16-16 record. I don't think they will be ahead of us. I've only seen one .500 team picked for the NIT in recent years and that was Carolina. I do agree that the Gophers' chances are only 50/50.

Looks like Pitino and Deandre agree with what I said. No CBI. They deserve to go out on a higher note than that. BTT or NIT are suitable ways to wrap up the season, CBI is not. Maybe in your world though.

It is just sad we are now trying to decide what the fate will be as our team sits on the bubble....of the NIT.

True

It is just sad we are now trying to decide what the fate will be as our team sits on the bubble....of the NIT.

but there is no injustice. We earned our fate.

Predicting this is next to impossible? For instance just in the Big Ten ... Penn St and Michigan are still playing...neither is in either of the two above projections. Penn St beat us twice and has a better overall record, but a lower RPI. Michigan beat us once and has a higher RPI but worse overall record. There are many more teams than 32 who can argue they could be in the NIT.
Does being defending NIT champions help us or hurt us? No idea if we are in or out.
