The Big South regular-season champs just lost in the tournament quarterfinals to #9 seed Longwood. Charleston Southern gets automatic NIT bid.

2 of 32 NIT bids now filled

Top seed Bucknell falls in the Patriot League semis, making the Bison the NIT's second automatic qualifier.

Murray State also lost the OVC championship so that should be #3.

Assuming they don't get an at-large into the NCAA tournament.

SS, question for you. If two teams tie for the regular season title and one of those teams wins the conference championship, does the other team that tied get an automatic NIT bid?

No. #1 seed is the only auto bid, if it doesn't make NCAA.

SDSU as the top seed lost to NDSU 57-56 in the Summit League final. Looks like another NIT bid determined.

SDSU vs Minnesota potential first round game? Also St. Francis Brooklyn gets a auto bid to NIT. Wow all these regular season champions are going down.

6 (probably 7) NIT slots filled

Updated through March 10.

Definitely NIT Bound
1. Charleston Southern (Big South)
2. Bill & Mary (Colonial)
3. Iona (Metro Atlantic)
4. Saint Francis-NY (Northeast)
5. Bucknell (Patriot)
6. South Dakota State (Summit)

Probably NIT (very outside chance of NCAA bid)
1. Murray State (Ohio Valley)

Looks like it's mostly the usual suspects of conferences. I wish they would get rid of this rule since the CIT is a mid-major only tournament and the CBI is mostly mid-majors. SDSU, Iona, possibly William and Mary, and definitely Murray State deserve to make the NIT but I don't think the others do. They might be joined by a mediocre Texas Southern and Albany by the end of the week.
