18 three pointers... They hit a 3 every 2 minutes and 13 1/3 seconds. Tough to win.

Gophers were pretty awful in box outs and staying in front of Yogi. However, offense was pretty good (Indiana also has horrible D) but 18 3's is going to win a team most games.
 

It will be interesting if we run into them again to see what we do different. I'd guess that they will play a lot more man defense and guard tight on the 3 point line. This should enable them to rebound much better than out of a zone.

I don't think Kentucky gives up 18 threes.
 



Beat NW. Win 2 of 3 vs Bucky/Sparty. Beat PSU. Not easy, but doable.

I didn't figure it would be close. They're so much quicker and more athletic at every spot, we would struggle to beat them on any court, much less Assembly Hall. Bad matchup and just another indication why this team is headed to another NIT this year.

I like to think I typically look at the games without a huge bias, unlike most on here who either think we are the best team in the country or worse than a D2 team. But I stay optimistic all the time, so I guess I could be a homer. But yep, Indiana is going to beat any team in the country when they score 54 points off of 3 pointers.
 




And when they weren't making threes they were making themselves at home in the paint. Not talking thuggery here, but once in a while you need to send a message with a hard foul or two. Maybe throw them off their game.

Didn't Crean have a weird thing where he wouldn't shake hands with the other coach if he lost? I think he blamed it on germs or something.

That's almost worse than giving up 18 3's.

Nothing there to disagree with. At least we'll have a chance to defend our title. We can try to be this decade's South Carolina.

You can take it a step further: they only made two in the first 10 minutes. That's one every 1:40 in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Kentucky also plays no one good in conference. They're a really good team, but I don't think they're anything too special. That's an argument for another time though. Indiana set a school record for 3's tonight. INDIANA!!! They're one of the best basketball programs out there and they've never shot this well before!

Indiana is definitely more athletic at every spot, but when a 6'6" guy is your starting center...I wouldn't expect said team to out rebound another team 35-16.

Agreed because they wouldn't have given up so many offensive rebounds and their perimeter players would have caught up to the shooters more quickly.

By "they," I assume you refer to the Gophers. When did we play a 2-3 zone tonight? What did we do defensively, to take them out of their stride. We were out of position way too much allowing the Hoosiers to penetrate and score at will and kick out for easy 3's.
 

We could've played better D. This isn't a complete "shrug the shoulders" game and just give Indiana all the credit for making 18 3's. I was not impressed with Pitino's game plan tonight and the players made a lot of mistakes rotating, losing their man, and not boxing out. That being said, Indiana did hit some ridiculous shots and executed extremely well. It's rarely just one or the other, it was a combination of things tonight.

The margin of error is obviously smaller now, but honestly only @Wisconsin looks unwinnable. This team can still finish strong and at least have a shot at the tourney if they make some noise in the BTT.

If the 6'6" guy consistently beats yours to the ball that will happen.

It's discouraging, because there's no sign that rebounding isn't going to continue to be a huge problem.
 

Not many teams if any are gonna win a game when the opponent hits 18 3's. Way too many easy buckets for Indiana on missed blockouts from our guys but 2 that really hurt were the putback right before half where King didn't block out and the dunk from Williams when the lead was cut to 11 and Mo just watched the ball. I thought the run for Indiana to start the 2nd half was really kind of a dagger tonight especially with the way they were shooting. Indiana really took advantage of Mo's lack of quickness and involved him in a bunch of ball screens in the 2nd half that led to wide open looks and dunks. I was hoping to see Pitino go small for a while and just go without a center in the game just to see if we could have matched up better that way. Overall not to upset with the way the Gophers played and still not giving up NCAA tourney hope. I think Michigan State is a team we match up well with and we can get a win there but gotta take care of other business first and that starts with Northwestern Wednesday.

FTB posted about this, but this is a game the Gophers should have slowed down and played Badger ball. We saw this against Arkansas last year. When the Gophers opponent wants to run with us and they are more athletic, we lose. Pitino is sticking to his style though, things should improve as he continues to recruit.

For me, that's another indication of athleticism and speed to a certain degree. When you shoot lots of jumpers, you get a lot of long boards. Add to that the fact that none of our guys box out worth a damn and you get embarrassed on the boards like tonight.
 

Steve Martin just looked very stiff and old on the SNL special. That is all.
