What NBA pressure? Serious question, does Ellis, Hollins or anyone around the program think that Hollins is an NBA prospect?

Go Gophers!!

He is serious, and don't call him Surely

Not a big fan of this thread, Bleed.

1-7 for two points. Disappointing. Maybe he will finish strong down the stretch.

Hollins chances of playing in the NBA are about 2% higher than Elliott's.

6 points from Hollins and Mathieu today on 3-14 shooting combined. Ufdah

I'd say 2% lower. Teams sometimes want a big oaf who can play 5 minutes a game, grab a couple rebounds, contribute 4 fouls and look shocked after each one. If Brian Cardinal can do it, maybe EE can.

In my opinion this says it all when it comes to the mental toughness of this team. A guy who is supposed to be our senior leader is letting pressure get to him. He seems like a great kid, but we need guys who step up when the lights come on. Hopefully he snaps out of it quickly otherwise this season is toast.

My answer totally. So he's mentally weak AND delusional; nice combo. I watched him on the floor during stoppages whenever he was on camera. Not a fiery leader. Not a "when the going gets tough" guy.

IMO, the Gophers don't have anyone like that right now. Wrong sport, but off field issues aside, I watched Jameis Winston against Oregon pick up his RB who fumbled twice, tell his offense to never stop believing in themselves down 20, etc. that's the leadership that can help teams.

When the going gets tough for MN we try to play 1 on 1 and go at it alone. Adversity breaks the team apart.

Tough to play hurt... but any NBA talk - now or before this season, were/are nutso.

That seems to be the issue every year with this team. Whether its at the season level (one bad loss snowballing into a catastrophic February) or the game level (one bad call/turnover turning into another blown double digit lead), this team is just too soft and mentally weak. In competitive sports, if you going to wet your pants and go cry in the corner every time something goes wrong, you better learn how to swim because otherwise you'll end up drowning in your own tears and urine.

We need the guy who, when stuff starts going bad, says "give me the ball, I'm solving this myself". Great example was Maxx Williams in the bowl game: the offense was ticked at the end of the first half, then the onsides kick leads to points for Missouri, and Maxx takes the ball and literally leaps over two separate defenders to turn a pretty generic completion for a first down into a highlight reel long touchdown. That fired up the team, led to a three and out on the next series for Missouri, and could have totally turned things around had Jones not given the ball right back with that boneheaded play on the punt return.

Dre has been disappointing; not a go to guy at all....

Nate Mason might be our biggest leader.from what I see on TV.. A freshman...

It's pretty simple; if Dre isnt' going to step up as a top 50 guard then we aren't going to make the tournament

Assuming that turf toe is really bothering him. It sucks that we can't just rest him and insert Nate into the starting lineup since we have so few players. Our tournament hope is really going to depend on the health of the team. I'm hoping that Pitino can channel his inner Greg Popovich and play Andre the least amount of minutes while still pulling out victories. If Andre's injury is bothering him as much as it seems, we're really better off playing Nate more minutes and hoping Andre can recover sooner.

Mason had 2 points on 1-7 from the field today. I like what I see from him too, but let's not crown him just yet. Mo Walker was clearly the best player on the team today. And he's fiery as well.

Not really a leader as in his play carries the team yet. More of an encouraging guy on the team with leadership traits.

Sorry, but Dre never had a chance at the NBA. He doesn't do one thing well enough to even consider the possibility. I just hope he doesn't continue his Ralph Sampson III impersonation.

The truth hurts. Hollins never had a shot at the NBA. He has regressed since his sophomore year. He is really nothing but a three point shooter who plays ok defense. He didn't develop the way we needed him to.

Pitino needs the guys he recruited last year and this year to pan out, and he needs another really good class next year. Otherwise he might get kicked out the door. People who wanted to give him a raise are crazy. He also might need an assistant to teach defense, but that could be a talent problem rather than a coaching problem.

Let's hope Pitino can get it done!

What was revealing is at the 3 minute mark Andre was passing up shots. Was he acknowledging he is hurt or conceding he had no confidence in his shot? He's the closest we have to a "Pure" shooter and when he's cold we are offensively challenged.

Like Arkansas last year, if your going to push the pace with inferrior athletes, you can get blown out of the gym. In our favor, I'd say Maryland and Ohio St are probably the most athletic big ten teams. We should be ok against most teams it's a brutal start of the schedule.

Nice try. He's not close to being an NBA draft pick. But an excellent game for Andre today, and we need this Andre (and Wake Forest Andre) to show itself more if we want to try to run the tables a little bit. Today was very encouraging!

Perhaps Hollins has come to the realization that the NBA was likely never an option and is able to relax. It's a logical explanation for his shooting performance today. :cool02:
