More Student Busses Being Added - Deadline for Getting on Wait List - Monday?

These extra games pay tens of millions to the conference. Should be able to scrape some of that to help make packages more affordable for fans. Especially for our top fans who give the most and spend the most.
The millions spend fast when you need to travel the cheerleaders, team, support staff, marching band, etc.

I am going to donate a ticket today, and I feel like that investment in the enjoyment of this program for a student will be the highest ROI thing I have ever done for Gopher Athletics.

With that said, does it seem really odd to anyone that they will only offer subsidized packages for students? $200 is awesome for round trip, hotel, etc, but I'm a little shocked that they won't even try to sell the package for $270 (the price without a donated ticket). In other words, the only sanctioned trips by the U are bare bones trips for students or 4 star luxury packages for "adults"?

Is there really nobody out there, student or alum, who would ever consider something between a subsidized bus ride and a flight/week at an expensive hotel?

I just donated a ticket to a student. I can't make it to the game, but I bought a ticket. I wonder what the break-even point for the bus trip would be? Perhaps in the future the U could commit to a certain number of subsidized buses, and then they could have packages at a break even price. That would give people incentive to sign up early to get the lower price.

Just got word that they added a sixth bus

Great news! Thanks for the info. @ Nax91: Hopefully that is good news for you and the girlfriend's chances too in terms of making it off the waiting list. best of luck. Ski-U-Mah!

I think the ticket office and those individuals and companies that have come forward to put these packages together in short order and then work to add capacity as warranted deserve a huge thank you and pat on the back. Hopefully in the end, every student who wants and is able to go, will get to go. Thanks and my Goldy hat off to those of you working on this!

+1, along with a big thank you to the alumni and fans who have bought tickets on behalf of the students. Down the road I will pay it forward and do the exact same thing.

+1. That's exactly how it is supposed to work in life. Well stated and great perspective.

Girlfriend and I got our ticket packages today =). Thanks to all who are donating and pushing for as much student involvement as possible. Very excited to be cheering the Gophers on on January 1st in Orlando.

Congrats! Glad you guys made it onto one of the buses. Have fun and Go Gophers! Ski-U-Mah!

I'm not going to be able to go but if there was any chance of adding another bus, I'd buy a student ticket.

Nax91 we should coordinate and drink some boxed wine in the back of the bus. And maybe if you're cool I'll buy you some pork rinds at a truck stop in Kentucky.

Did they reach out to you personally, or did you call the office yourself? Yesterday they told me I barely missed making it onto the 5th bus, so I assumed if they had already gotten a 6th one I'd be set to go. Still haven't heard from them, though. I'll probably call them up tomorrow one way or another to see where I stand.

Regardless, I'm glad more students like you are getting to go, it sounds like all those ticket donations are paying off, which is great to see!

You should call and ask! I'm sure they still are taking donations!

If you need any cheap whiskey to go with those pork rinds, come find us as in the middle of the bus

Also, many many thanks to everyone who donated tickets! It's very much appreciated.

I gave them a call this morning when they opened to find out where we were in the waiting list first. Then they called us later in the day. So I think it might help to give them a call too. Good luck; hope you make it!

And to other GH members who will be on the buses, shoot me a message if you want and we can try to get matched up for buses! Since I am assuming it will be somewhat random who ends up on what bus.

Glad to hear you made the bus, Nax91! I hope all of you students have a fantastic time. We went to the bowl games in 1985 and 1986 and have been life-long Gopher fans since. Your time is starting!

Got my spot on the bus! Apparently they were calling an incorrect phone number yesterday and crossed my name off the wait list but I was able to get them toput me back on because of the mixup. I loved the trip to Houston last year and I can't wait to hit up Orlando this year!

It sounds like they got to at least 6 busses. A friend who got on the list a few DAYS after me got on the bus.

For those interested students will be leaving at 8am on the 30th and students are split up into 4 different (nice looking) hotels

Bump with some info: as I type this we are currently driving through Northern Illinois (the region of the state not the campus). 5 hours down, 17.5 to go!

Last long bus roadtrip I was on, 4 of us got a multi-hour card game going. We played Hearts for money to keep it exciting. If you have not done it, you keep a 5th column with the scoring average. At the end of the game, people below the average pay in per point, those above the average win. You can play small stakes (penny a point) or higher stakes. Shooting the moon is more nerve-wracking when money is at stake.

Believe it or not, it really did make the time go by faster. If no one has palying cards, buy them at the next truck stop.

Or play drinking games.
