Minnesota native Lu’Cye Patterson commits to the Gophers

It's still a team sport and how they play together is important. Each individual doesn't always equal the whole.

Agreed. Some people talk about players like they're light bulbs that can just be plugged and their contributions will be easily determinable according to their watts and lumens ratings.

I agree that Odukale is a quality player, but Evans Jr is far more than just another wing.
He is an exceptional scorer and is the SWAC Player of the Year and would be the best Portal transfer we will have added this year.
Small school (Howard) sent us Elijah Hawkins last year , and he led the Nation in assists.

What we know at this point is that we are going to have a pretty balanced and very experienced team next season. What that translates too on the court remains to be seen.

Yes, there's too much fog at this point to see clearly but I don't think we're totally blind. If the coach's recruiting has worked out to his apparent intent (more experienced and mature players who are capable of contributing more regularly), I don't see a strong reason to believe that next year's team should be worse than this year's.

On the other hand, I don't see a strong reason yet to believe they will be better either and Ben's team needs to be better next season. I'm not going to say that they have to make the NCAA tournament because deserving teams can be left out of the tournament (See St. John's and Indiana State this season) but I think they need to win 20 regular season games anyway. That's not going to be easy because the early signs are that the nonconference slate will be harder and there aren't many breathers in the new 18 team Big Ten. We weren't lucky enough to get any of poorer teams from the former PAC 12.

Has no one figured out that Sane24 IS Evans Jr yet?

I don’t think its going to happen, but if by some way we sign Ken Evans, Jr. our upside goes from #70 TRank roster to #58 which us a huge jump. With 12-14 teams likely to make the NCAA tournament from Big Ten next year (!), MN will be solidly in position to finish above .500. Also, MN would be 10 seniors deep, and could run teams off the court. Old is better in college bb.

HIS TEAM is short one wing at this time.
If the Gopher-holers don't get it, I understand, but the HC is supposed to be smarter than people that live in a gopher hole.
BJ is WAY smarter regarding the required team build than anyone on this site.

I like Ben but at 15-45 it is pretty reasonable to question him. Does he know more than us? By far. Does he know more than other coaches at this level? That's the question.

I like the types of people he brings in to play for him- so far so good on character. The resounding issue of the first three years is how bad defensively his teams are. None in the top 100 twice as bad as Pitino. That's horrid.

You don't have to be a 5 star to play sound defense.

One good way to improve your defensive stats is to offensively not shoot until the shot clock reads one second left.
And to reject transition opportunities.
My only point being that sometimes defensive stats can lie to the reader.

Stats are never perfect and they do lie a little- but not a lot. Here on Evan Miya we rank 125th on defense and 23rd on pace. Mississippi State is tied with us on pace and they rank #21 on defensive efficiency. Iowa State has just a slightly quicker pace than us and was the #1 defense in the nation.
You have to play well on both ends. Christie was a weak defender, as was Hawkins. So the hope is, what we give up on offense (if we do give up anything) we more than make it up on defense.

Since you are accounting for "pace", my comments were unnecessary (although well intended).

Are you saying in terms of age or eligibility? Frank Mitchell iwill be a senior in age but should have two more years of eligibility since he's played only two years and one was at a Canadian school. Betts, Asuma, and Groves won't be seniors.

Might be one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Actually, Zeppelin didn't say he was 100% sure but you have a point. I'll say that I'm 95% sure that Evans isn't coming here and 90% sure that no other transfer portal player is either.
I am 100% in favor of any statement that says any gopherholer is less than 100% sure of anything.

Re-read what you write and then re-rank what you read.

Yep, your statement is still one of the dumbest things I've ever read. I mean how in the hell are you better defensively by shooting with 1 second on the shot clock? Makes no sense.

Because the more time you possess the ball, the less time your opponents offense possesses the ball and that will usually result in fewer shots, baskets and points for your opponents.

Limiting the possessions doesn't help you play better defense. It just limits the possessions.
