Minnesota is known as the Gopher State and Goldy Gopher started his career as a mascot at the University of Minnesota in 1940. The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team finished as the ninth seed in the Big Ten Tournament. This was a five-seed improvement from the previous season. The head coach of the team, Ben Johnson, is a graduate of Minnesota and the second-youngest coach in the Big Ten.

Gopher men’s hockey
The Golden Gophers men’s hockey team is set to host an important event. This is the 2024 Men’s Ice Breaker Tournament. It will be held at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and marks the beginning of the NCAA Division I men’s hockey season. Four teams come together from different conferences.
Tom McGinnis, senior associate athletic director at Minnesota, said the hockey players are looking forward to this event and he appreciates the opportunity to provide unique experiences such as this to student-athletes.
You won’t find a more passionate hockey fan base than there is for the Gopher men’s hockey although there probably aren’t as many of them compared to football and basketball.
