Former University of Minnesota Golfer, Erik van Rooyen carded a T16 finish this weekend at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The Gopher alum shot a four round 276 and finished -12 earning $109,196.67 and most importantly, 45 Fedex Cup points. This is his second straight top 30 finish in the PGA fall schedule.
van Rooyen also had the “Shot of the Day” during round 2 after holing out for eagle from 112 yards out on his final hole of the day.
Coming into this tournament, van Rooyen ranked 126th in the Fedex Fall Cup standings, but moved up one spot to 125th after this weekend, which would secure him a PGA tour card if the season ended today. van Rooyen, who earned exempt status through the 2022-2023 season with his 2021 victory at the Barricuda Championship, needs to finish in the top 125 to secure his PGA Tour card for the upcoming season. He is currently 9 points ahead of 126th place.
van Rooyen will tee off next at the Shriners Children’s Open on October 12 in Las Vegas.
