Trevon Walters, a 5-foot-10, 186-pound running back from Bradenton (FL) Manatee, is one of the Sunshine State’s top rushers. He helped lead his team to a 13-1 mark last season, losing to perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas in the Class 7A semifinals. Walters plans to visit Minnesota the weekend of September 28th for the Iowa game.
Gopher Hole caught up with Walters Sunday to learn the more about his recruitment.
Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your college football recruitment right now?
Trevon Walters: The latest right now is apparently not much. Minnesota and Toledo are the only two schools that have been talking to me this summer.
Gopher Hole: You set up an official visit for Minnesota on September 28th for the Iowa game, right?
Trevon Walters: Yes.
Gopher Hole: Have you set up any other visits yet?
Trevon Walters: I am going to set up Toledo for September 14th (versus Eastern Washington).
Gopher Hole: What camps did you get a chance to attend this summer?
Trevon Walters: I went to the Florida State camp and the Tulane camp, but I visited a lot of schools, though.
Gopher Hole: I know that Marshall is a school that you were looking at awhile back and they have a friend of yours, Andre Snipes-Booker, on the roster. Are you still hearing from them?
Trevon Walters: No. Not lately.
Gopher Hole: What do you see as your strengths as a running back?
Trevon Walters: I am very explosive. I am powerful. I have got good vision and I’m fast.
Gopher Hole: What things are you working on to continue to improve yourself as a football player?
Trevon Walters: My footwork. My speed, still. I am in the weight room every day.
Gopher Hole: I know that you had a very good season last year, losing to perennial power St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinals. What are the expectations for the upcoming season?
Trevon Walters: This year, to make it to state.
Gopher Hole: Do you have most of your guys back or did you lose a lot of seniors from last year?
Trevon Walters: We lost basically our whole defense, but most of offense is coming back. We lost our quarterback, a wide receiver and an offensive lineman, but we look pretty good.
Gopher Hole: I talked to your head coach and he said that you have four players on your team who have already committed (DT Demarcus Christmas to Florida State, OL Michael Galati to South Florida, WR Brodrick Yancy to Temple and OL Jake Stickler to Georgia Tech). Does that make it even more special playing on such a loaded team with so many good teammates around you?
Trevon Walters: Oh, yes. Our offense probably might be better than last year.
