Q&A: DeLaSalle Junior Drayton Carlberg Says His Family Wants Him to Play for the Gophers

Drayton Carlberg, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior defensive lineman/offensive lineman from Minneapolis (MN) DeLaSalle, attended the Minnesota Gopher game versus Iowa. Carlberg already has a Big Ten offer on the table as Rutgers offered early, and the offer list is certain to grow quickly. Carlberg talked to GopherHole.com about the latest on his early recruitment.

Gopher Hole: What is the latest on your recruitment right now?

Drayton Carlberg: A lot of colleges have been showing interest in me. I have been getting a lot of mail lately. It has been good, just the way that they show interest and I like coming out and watching the Minnesota Gophers play. I have gotten a lot of mail. A lot of college coaches have been coming in and talking to my coach about me. As far as it has gone, it has gone pretty good.

Gopher Hole: What schools are sending you letters?

Drayton Carlberg: I have heard from the whole Big Ten so far, Iowa State, Cincinnati and Rutgers (which has since offered him a scholarship).

Gopher Hole: Have you had a chance to go to many college camps this year?

Drayton Carlberg: I attended the Northwestern camp, Iowa State camp, Iowa and the Minnesota camp.

Gopher Hole: Have you thought much about what camps you might attend next year?

Drayton Carlberg: I haven’t made my schedule up yet for this summer, but I’ll end up attending a lot of college camps.

Gopher Hole: What would it mean to maybe play for the homstate school?

Drayton Carlberg: It would mean a lot. My family is a strong Golden Gopher team. My grandparents, grandma and uncles, they are always trying to get to play for the Gophers, but we’ll see how it goes.
