Gophers Do Not Repeat First Meeting With Purdue

Gopher Basketball

The biggest Gopher Fan in the world could not find many positives during this 47-66 point loss at Purdue. The U didn’t lead the entire game, and they had season high 28 turnovers compared to Purdue’s 14. On top of this, it really looked like the Gophers collapsed, instead of trying to gain some momentum going into the Big Ten Tournament.

Spencer Tollackson led the team with 16 points, and went 8-12 from the field. Dan Coleman and Lawrence McKenzie also put up 10 points each. One of the brighter spots of the evening was Lawrence Westbrook putting up 7 points in only 11 minutes. One of the biggest struggles all year has been rebounding, and Minnesota actually out-rebounded the Boilermakers 34-26. However the Gophers could not stop Carl Landry, who was on fire tonight. He put up 25 points to go along with his 12 boards. This led to the Gopher’s 21st loss of the season, and put Purdue at 19-10 for the year. Just one away from the desired 20 win season.

Quite honestly, I don’t think anyone really wants to read much about this game. Most of us saw it, were hopeful, and ended up being disappointed. I think this was the theme of the season. The only thing we can look forward to is the Big 10 tournament, and a miracle. When you look at most of our games this season we at least hung with most teams for at least a portion of the game. If we can paste all of those pieces together into full games perhaps we can be a competitor for the tournament.

If nothing else, there’s always next season”¦

Here’s the box score.
