Over the course of the college football season, the GopherHole.com writers will be engaging in an intense battle to see who is the most intelligent (or luckiest) football fan of the bunch. Each week we will give our predictions for each Big Ten game along with a few national games. To make things more interesting, a special guest will make his/her predictions each week as well, along with a member of
The Hole. We’ll be charting the results all season and come January we will know without a doubt who the smartest (or luckiest) person is.
This week’s celebrity guest is John Shipley, who is the Gopher football beat writer for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Credited for the increase in Gopher football coverage this year in the Pioneer Press, Shipley was the deputy sports editor for the paper the previous three years. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Shipley covered Iowa State at the Des Moines Register and Iowa at the Cedar Rapids Gazette. A 1989 graduate of the University of Iowa, Shipley contends that “last weekend’s games — Wisconsin-Minnesota, Penn State-Michigan, USC-Notre Dame, BC-Wake Forest — only reaffirmed my belief that college football is the best beat in sports journalism.” This weeks guest selector from “˜The Hole’ is norman dale.
