Over the course of the college football season, the GopherHole.com writers will be engaging in an intense battle to see who is the most intelligent (or luckiest) football fan of the bunch. Each week we will give our predictions for each Big Ten game along with a few national games. To make things more interesting, a special guest will make his/her predictions each week as well, along with a member of
The Hole. We’ll be charting the results all season and come January we will know without a doubt who the smartest (or luckiest) person is.
With the Border Battle game upon us, GopherHole felt it was appropriate to cross the rival lines to get a former Minnesota-prep turned Badger football player to serve as this weeks celebrity guest. Former Armstrong Falcon legend and Wisconsin Badger TE, Dague Retzlaff, took time out of his schedule to participate in the weekly pick “˜em contest. Not surprisingly, he picked his alma mater, the Badgers to upend his home-state Gophers. This is not the only time he chose Wisconsin over Minnesota, as Retzlaff spurned Jim Wacker and the Gophers to play for Barry Alvarez’s Badgers and with it brought his imposing 6-8 280+ lb frame to Madison in the late 90s. Retzlaff was instrumental in Wisconsin’s prolific running attack in the late 90s with impressive blocking and the ability to keep defenses honest with his hands which he displayed in the 1998 Outback Bowl scoring the Badgers’ lone touchdown in their 33-6 thumping from the Georgia Bulldogs. Retzlaff now resides in Milwaukee with his wife and works in private business.
This weeks guest from The Hole is JPII Gopher.
