Former Gopher Erik van Rooyen picked up his 2nd PGA tour victory this afternoon winning the World Wide Technology Championship. It was an emotional victory as he dedicated this round to his former Gopher teammate, John Trasamar, who is battling cancer. van Rooyen mentioned this on the broadcast, but there is a GoFundMe in place for John and his wife.
Coming into Sunday’s round, van Rooyen was 1 shot back from co-leaders Matt Kuchar and Camilo Villegas. He posted his best round of the tournament going -9 under including -8 on the back nine, with an eagle on 18th to clinch the victory. You can see his tremendous approach shot here.
This win also should solidify van Rooyen’s PGA Tour card status for the upcoming season after being ranked 125th in the Fedex Fall Cup.
Ski-U-Mah, Erik!
