This would impact the Minnesota vs Buffalo game on FS1 on Thursday. It would also impact the B1G Network. How are you watching the game on Thursday?

 

DirecTV Stream. Never miss Wolves or Twins games and the only time I've ever had an issue with missing channels was due to a dispute with whoever owns Kare 11 and that was pretty easy to work around.
 

If we look at the increased YouTube TV streaming fee Fox will strong arm into dropping very soon as analogous to the $200 U of M Coyle administrative bloat support student fee it’s not so bad.

Hey, it isn’t Disney this time. Deal with it before the games start, guys. Lock yourselves in a room till it’s done. We all know YouTube is going to cave, so just get it over with.

Only if you use YouTube TV.
 

No provider is immune to these. Networks will ask and push for as high of carriage fees as they can muster, every time and with every provider.

Timing of the outages is always geared to maximize outrage.

Crappy timing for sure, but suspect I will not be able to watch on YTTV because of it. Maybe have to see about a free trial of either a standalone service or Hulu Live, etc. then cancel once resolved.

Not necessarily. Google is a lot bigger fish than Fox with a lot more resources and power. The balance of power has shifted from the days when it was the cable company vs. TV networks in their heyday. Now it's the biggest companies on Earth versus TV networks that are struggling with cord cutting.

It will probably get sorted 5 minutes before kickoffs on Saturday but the power dynamics are different and eventually it won't all work out.

Although currently it seems that I cannot watch Fox with my DirecTV Stream, but I can watch Fox Sports 1 and such.

YouTube TV sent an email saying they’ll offer a $10 credit if they can’t come to a deal with Fox. They also included a link to the new Fox One streaming service, which is $19.95 per month for all Fox content, including FS1.

I thought of getting the Fox One service until they’re back on YouTube TV, but then I saw that the Fox One service just launched on August 21st.

This is just too much of a coincidence that Fox is strong arming YouTube TV at the same time they launched their own service, so I don’t want to reward Fox during their negotiations, which could end up raising the cost of YouTube TV.

I looked at Hulu Live TV, but they don’t allow using a ‘living room device’ outside your home. They consider devices like an Apple TV, Roku or Fire as living room devices. Since I travel a lot with my Apple TV, Hulu Live TV won’t work for me.

I helped a friend setup the V4 SeeBox and it was pretty much a disaster for him. He was used to an Apple TV, which has a very fast and easy interface, but the SeeBox V4 was both slower and harder to use.

I realize the V5 is faster than the V4, but unless you like to tinker with electronics, there are better solutions.

You can get a 7-day trial of Fox One and cancel before you get hit with the fees. I'm hoping that a deal will be worked out between Fox and YouTube in a few days. YouTubeTV must be a huge revenue source for Fox.
 




This is annoying, I just decided to switch to Youtube TV from Hulu live this year, I guess I may have to switch back just to catch the Buffalo game.

So far I really like the Youtube TV user interface much better than the Hulu live. I was happy with the switch otherwise.

That’ll work for the short term.

Sling TV just launched a new plan in response to the Fox - YouTube TV war. Their $19.95 per month Select Plan includes FS1 and Fox News, plus the local Fox TV station. It includes 10 other channels.

I’ve had no issues other than some occasional buffering and channels not available for a short timeframe. When the channels are down you get a Channel Under Maintenance message.

I do not download any apps thru Google and only use the live tv and video apps within the box. Video app includes all the major content providers.

Go thru Roku to watch anything on apps such as YouTube.

I had no issues setting it up. I’ve used Apple TV and Roku. Have not noticed any difference in speed. Friend of mine has the V3 and hasn’t had any speed issues.

My friend bought his SeeBox used, so maybe it had an issue.
 

This is the one thing that has held me back from moving on from terrestrial cable. I've got streaming options to get games through other means, but the feed quality can be poor, and in some situations, unreliable.

Eventually I'll cut the cord....and YT TV has always seemed like the best option.

They work great at my friend's house. I would just be leery of having them on my home network. Kind of the old "there's no such thing as a free lunch". But my risk tolerance is lower than most people's.
 

I've gone with Sling, it's a bit cheaper. Doesn't have the local networks but I have an antenna so can pick those up still.

Could be he's not local to MN and that Fox is owned by someone else.

I did learn on a recent trip that if you operate DirecTV Stream via one of their streaming boxes, you can take that with you. All your DVR stuff is there, but you get the local channels, not the MN ones.
Previously, I've taken my FireTV with and used the app on that. I always got local channels that way. Not quite sure how that works.
