young vs old Pitino....Who leaves first? Video

Richard's a tough guy to read because when he talks in public he's always selling the program so you don't actually know how he feels about this job. I think the fact that he was able to land a 4-star from the South without good facilities in just his 2nd year is HUGE. It shows that the facilities and weather issues aren't as big of a deal as the national media would make you believe in recruiting. The facilities will be upgraded at some point, the Barn will be renovated eventually and i'm sure we'll probably give him as much money as he wants. So it will come down to whether he can compete on the national stage here and more importantly if he wants to raise his family in Minnesota.

I've decided to just enjoy the ride and not worry about it. If he stays long term that would be freakin awesome but if he leaves for Louisville or wherever we'll at least be in a much better spot than we were when he took the job. Fingers crossed he stays forever.

Who do you think will win the B1G first - Richard Pitino or Jerry Kill?

Kill's odds much better with divisional play.

But easier to turn around basketball team with fewer recruits. 2 good recruiting years and you could win a title in year 2, with those classes being freshmen and sophmores. Impossible to do that in football. I think bball will win a title first.

Except Kill has 2 years on Pitino so that doesn't really matter. If we get 2 or 3 more 4 stars this year and Amir next year then Pitino's chances will look a lot better then Kill's.

Kill is a long, long, long way from winning a conference title. It takes so much longer to build a legit contender in football. I'm not sure either will ever win a B1G title for us, but if I had to put money down I'd go with Pitino.

Except Kill is 2 years ahead of Pitino and he just led us to our best in 10 years in only his third year.

Do you really feel like we can compete with Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa year in and year out? Sure we can upset a few teams every year, but that doesn't mean we're going to compete for the championship. I love where the football program is going, but will we ever be on a Ohio State level? Probably not

If we beat the teams we are supposed to beat and "upset a few teams every year", we would absolutely be competing for a championship.

MODERATOR: Please move the Pitino vs Kill for B1G title discussion to its own thread. It gives the false impression that people actually want to discuss the original topic, plus it could be a good discussion.

I fully expect us to compete with Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan if they stay down etc. We will never be at an OSU level but i don't see why we can't get to a Wisconsin or MSU level who have won the last 4 Big Ten titles. Can't you say the exact same thing for the hoops program as well?

The divisional approach to Football gives Kill a serious advantage. It's possible to get a favorable schedule and not have to play some of the juggernauts head to head. Run into a year where OSU/Michigan has a stupid loss early and we have a year like last year where the West is weak and we have home games scheduled against the good teams. You could luck your way into a conference championship game and then it's a one game coin flip from there.

If we are talking about winning the Big 10 Tournament, then I guess Richard could "luck" into one much quicker.

But as many have said, in BBALL it's a lot easier to get a couple good recruiting classes together and make a run at it while not having the depth required in football.

I pick Kill in this mythical topic to have a Big 10 title before Richard wins a regular season title.

Kill needs a QB that can actually pass the ball before he has any sort of chance of winning a B1G championship. I'm not sure we have that player on the roster yet. I think in a year or two Richard will have enough talent to make a run in the B1G. He's only going to get better at coaching and should get better and better recruits.

Well stated, though I would use the word "manage" instead of luck.
