With the debate of which is more important(conference season vs NCAA Tounament), here is the choice:

A. Win the Big Ten regular season title.

B. Finish with 10 or 11 wins in BT regular season.

Assuming you 'stumble' in the big dance( with scenario A), how far must you advance in the tournament to choose B over A?

Get to the Final Four. A Big Ten Championship is a big deal- bigger than getting to the Elite Eight but not as big as getting to the Final Four.

I tend to disagree. Regular season success is great, but I think its biggest utility is setting you up with a good seed to make a run. I'd probably take the Sweet 16 and definitely the Elite Eight over a B1G championship. If a team is good enough to win the B1G, but drops a stinker in one of the first two rounds, that means they are choke artists, and that would leave a bad taste all off-season.

I think that's about right. Think how sweet it would be to have a Big Ten Championship banner to put up. That's a big deal. Do you get banners for Elite Eight?

Give me Elite Eight and 10,11 conference wins over BT regular season title and 1st round exit.

There is something to be said about the conference title though, it's probably more indicative of your future as well, so that holds some weight as well.

Which team am I a fan of in this scenario?

If it's the Gophers, it's Sweet 16.

If it's the Spartans, it's Final 4.

I'm curious as to why you made that distinction. Are you saying that if you were a Spartan fan you would value the B1G less than do as a Gopher fan? Or are you saying As a Gopher fan, you value those first two tournament wins more than you would a a Spartan fan?

I'm saying that getting to the Sweet 16 is a pretty big deal for the Gophers. Getting to the Elite 8 (or worse) is pretty ho-hum for the Spartans - especially if they didn't win the Big Ten regular season.
