Is this like a reception hall or something? Ballroom? WTF? It is kinda cool and different...

It's a ballroom/auditorium/convention hall, not an arena.

It's a ballroom for the Paradise Island Casino and Resort. The entire tournament is just a big promotional gimmick for the Resort to get people to vacation and gamble at their Casino. Good marketing strategy for them and a fun opportunity for the players to get in some games and enjoy the sun and surf of the Bahamas.

I wonder if Osborne Lockhart and Mychal Thompson were around to show the kids the sights? :)

per Marcus: "Ran into former #Gophers center Pete Gilcud who is from Nassau. He was the guy who got Mychal Thompson and Osborne Lockhart to the U."

Go Gophers!!

I was there, the set up is actually really good even though its in a ball room, its the perfect size for an early season tournaments and creates a great atmosphere, I was impressed.

It did look pretty sweet. How many people fit in there? A thousand? 2 thousand or so? Looked very small but cool

A few years ago when I walked into the casino, the WTA went off. The would be the White Trash Alarm. Couldn't find a blackjack table with less than a $50 minimum bet. Felt like a pair of brown shoes at a black shoe party.

Didn't they have any whitejack tables?

I thought it was a cool setup. The lighting would seem to be set up for shooters with the dark crowd and the lit up court like Lakers Staples center or the new Barclays Center, but it seemed like a lot of guys struggled with it (except Duke in our game and Dre Hollins against Memphis LOL). But overall, thought it was pretty cool looking.

I didn't like the lighting. It reminded me of an ultimate fighting event. It was just missing a cage fence around the playing surface. It did look brighter for the game against Memphis. Not sure if they added more lighting after Thursday, or it was just my imagination. It was also funny to see that typical convention ballroom carpet around the temp court.

My reaction was that we were in a movie studio watching basketball. After the first day, I got used to it and the venue worked. For most of us there, we don't sit in row 5 on the first level very often and it was a great view and perspective. In my estimation, there was not 4,000 seats in the place, though. It made for a better environment than 3/4 empty large arenas than some the pre season tournaments provide.

Thats what I thought too. I cant stand looking at a 15,000 seat arena with 5,000 people in it for a tourament. Makes it seem really empty. I kind of thought the small venue was kind of cool, and it did not look like there were more than a couple thousand seats there on tv anyway...

What is amazing is that they turned a big assed Bingo parlor into any kind of a basketball venue with some really good teams playing there.

I heard from a reliable source close to the situation that the locker rooms were actually make-up rooms for the dancing girls.
