According to Scout, Westerkamp has committed to the Cornhuskers. Westerkamp of Lombard, IL had a lot of offers and reportedly Minnesota was in his final three.

Oh well! Next.

Go Gophers!!

More perks at Nebraska

Not saying Westerkamp will be on the "take", but you cannot believe the special benefits the players get in Lincoln. I had a few accounts in Omaha for 19 years and Tom Osbourne is like the Godfather. Berfore its demise, the Playboy Club use too reside at the Sheraton in Omaha. I would service the accounts about once every three months and usually spend a night or two at the Sheraton ( the scenery was great!) and of course amble into the club for a look see. The lady bartender was a wealth of information on the Husker football program and how it was almost a secret society like the Masons in what was done for the players. Pay stubs for players summertime jobs didn't report actual compensation. Timecards reported bogus hours. Cars for players were not handled locally and in many cases were brought in from Canada so there was no paperwork trail. Osbourne made sure there "WAS" loyality among thieves. Football at Nebraska is bigger than the University and the State itself all the way down to the janitor in the dorms. I don't know how many of you have ever been to Lincoln. It is stuckout in the middle of a corn field with absolutely
no redeaming qualities. The players are treated like rock stars and walk down the the streets with the fans drolling "We're not worthy" explitives. Actually, I admire them on how they've kept the NCAA totally in the dark. I remember going down Lincoln in the mid 70's when the Gophers had Rich Upchurch. Every "DO Drop INN" we past after we crossed over from Iowa had GO Big RED plastered all over their establishments. My buddies as we pulled into the Holiday INN
after driving around town saying: "Who in the F--k would want to play football in this god forsaken town"? Then came Saturday and you had 80,000 crazies dressed in red driving in on their Massy-Fergusson tractors to see the game. We thought, Yup, who wouldn't want to be treated like a King 12 months out of the year even if the City Hall looked like an upscale Pizzza Hut.:)

If this is true I propose a Major Junior Football League.

At Colorado back when in the mid sixties, the players would go to a local pharmacy to get their "prescriptions" filled. Have you ever noticed that you can roll up a wad of bills and they fit in a pill bottle quite well.

Westerkamp will never get a job in this town again.

I've been told stories of gopher players got paid for summer jobs that they never showed up to around that same time. I've spent some time around college coaches (different sport but still), and they all think everyone is cheating. I knows it's bad timing to say this, but I don't think that cheating is as wide spread as every thinks.

Now with that said, a high rated recruit that I went to high school with gave his verbal to Oklahoma in the back of a strip club. Drunk and a stripper going down on him is all it took to get this 17 year old on board. A little while later he takes a trip down to Lincoln comes back in a brand new car and he switched to Nebraska. Funny part was he made his mom tell Stoops 6'8 280 and he was to scared to talk on the phone with the guy. He ended up getting hurt and not doing anything in college, but to this day I think about how easy it was for them to let a kid go in under 12 months after dropping $30k on him.

Westerkamp will never get a job in this town again.

Oh, I get it now. A recruit chooses the college he wants to attend, and that will disqualify him from getting a future job in "this town"?

Football is big here and I don't doubt anything you say, but after living in Lincoln for the past 25 years, you are very wrong about the town. Great place to live and we quit driving our tractors in town a few years ago. Believe me I am a Minnesotan always, but you gave a very poor description of Lincoln. I would love if the Gophers had a portion of the following that the Huskers do. 30+ years straight of going to bowl games is an unbelievable record.

Geez, Don. Ever listen to Sid?

Lincoln Gopher....

Not questioning the following. Quite frankly Nebraska fans are some of the best in college football.
Lincoln on the other hand is the tag phrase. "It's like spending a cold winter in Omaha" It maybe quote: "a great place to live", but quite frankly you can see everything and do everything in one day. I remember one of my customers in Omaha said this about Lincoln. "The folks in Lincoln never have to worry if they lose sight of their kids. All you have to do is open the back door and you can see for miles without any obstruction"

I kinda like the notion of safety of raising kids you referred to. Lincoln is a town of nearly 250,000 people, you can see alot of it in a day. It is safe, lowest unemployment rate in the country. Bad economy, what bad economy, not really a factor here in Lincoln. I have lived in little towns and cities the size of Minneapolis, all have their advantages and downfalls. Lincoln has been just fine for me and my family. Omaha may have more shootings per capital of any city in the midwest.

I do not see the point of bashing another teams hometown on a football message board. It provides no competitive advantage.

I believe it was a joke (sarcasm).

Sarcasm and joking only exists in real life conversations. There is no such thing as either in the blogosphere.

My vote for the best sarcastic post of the year!

Too bad. Would have been a good commit.

Good luck to him at Nebraska. Hope he runs his routes to perfection so he doesn't have to face the wrath of Pelini!

Lets hope he doesn't. We get to play against him every year, remember?

So do I, so Stoudermire can eat him alive!!!!!!!!!

You must be some sort of Fadger fan or something, since that is their standard answer to every missed recruit. This screams troll.

Or since Jeshurun has been here a while perhaps it screams joke?

I'm sorry..

I've always associated "joke" with humor. The constant babbling of this line every time is far from funny. I think it's vacant, and repetitive.

For cryin' out loud.....relax.

JoeDirt, it is hard for some people to relax when they just pulled an all nighter studying for their urine test.

By the way, your new signature (or whatever the line at the bottom of your posts is called) is damn funny.

I didn't find it funny...
