Earlier this year I thought the Gophers would have a chance at a 17-19 win season and be respectable. No NCAA bid, but maybe the NIT. I thought we had enough pieces, enough depth, and enough experience to be competitive. The last moth has shown me that I VASTLY overrated our team and our coach. This team is not only bad, but embarrassing and almost unwatchable (although I will continue to watch as I love Gopher Basketball)

That take wasn't out of line. KenPom had the Gophs in the 50s, and that metric has been solid in the past for preseason strength prediction. 50s is NIT territory, not to mention NCAA hopeful.

KenPom is based on adjusted player ratings. The Gophers have a lot of new pieces this year. That tells me two things:
1. The early injuries derailed this team, especially the one to Mitchell.
2. Even now that they're healthier, the whole is way, way less than the sum of its parts. That's on player chemistry and coaching.

Gophers lose 6-10 points a game on coaching against any competent coach. They don’t have the talent to make up for that consistently.

A really good coach isn’t going to make this team great. But they’d make them a heckuva lot more competitive.

As I said last night, give Gard our players and Ben, Wisky's players and it's a tight game

Exactly. Not saying the gophers roster is loaded but they are so poorly coached that they need superior talent to make up for it. They don’t have superior talent.
