Brewer isn't holding back on the KFAN post-game show. He has been very critical of the coaching staff in every facet of the game, saying that the direction of the program is going the wrong way, former players are upset and growing increasingly concerned with the output, etc. It's rare to hear former players so critical of a team/staff.

Go Gophers!!

Uh-oh, Kool-Aid & The Gang (TM) aren't going to like this one bit! Their whole "you're not a true Gopher fan" argument is out the window!

When former players start bailing...if in droves...not good for Brew...one of his main pillars of support.

You are surprised? Brewer was a Mason guy so of course he is going to be critical of the new staff. Also he would not be on KFAN unless he was critical, if he said anything that could be interpreted as positive KFAN would boot him of the air

This post is wrong on every point.

I hope you are joking. If not, you really are a fool.

I've listened to Jack many times and he seems like a very sincere guy that just wants the program to do well.

No it isn't. I'm sure Jack is a big Gopher fan, but he still is going to have his inherent biases, just like all the huge Mason backers that still exist around here. You are biased towards what you are familiar with.

Sorry, I forgot KFAN was a beckon of optimism for the gopher football program. I guess I am shocked! negativity on KFAN? who would have thunk it.

I like Jack Brewer and he knows football. But he is a Mason guy first, last, and always. Brewer was very critical of Brewster in his first season. Nothing much has changed since then. And right now it is impossible to argue that the criticism is not justified.

hey bankonit, it's not KFANs responsibility to wear Maroon and gold colored glasses and sugarcoat the local sports teams. Barreiro is a smug SOB who is only looking to rile people up, but you can't discount criticism of the team simply because its on KFAN.

It would very hard not to be critical of the Offensive play-calling or Mr. Weber today.:(

I'll just say I'm happy for the win and hopeful for next week.

That's all I got, everybody enjoy the rest of the weekend.

KFAN is sleeping with the Vikings and wanking them off, so yes it is in KFAN's best interest to bash Gophers

Tell me what teams KFAN likes besides the vikings? they hate the wolves, they only like the twins when they win, they hate the gophers, maybe the wild?

It is hard to argue with that logic. Seriously. Another way to say it is that KFAN knows which side their bread is buttered on. It will be fun to watch the transformation when WCCO steals the Vikings back in the next year or two.

Let's play name that logical falacy.

I'm going with poisoning the well.

Can't say I blame Brewer. In fact, I agree with him at this point. And it has nothing to do with Mason or any other football coach the Gophers have had. It has to do with what we're seeing from this team, which is quite awful in most respects.

If former players are beginning to jump off the bandwagon, Brew is going to be in real trouble. He may already be in trouble for all I know, but one thing is for sure. If former players are as upset with what is going on as Brewer is, they're going to start talking. And the more they continue to talk, the more Maturi will be forced to address the situation with Brewster sooner rather than later.

believe it or not (i know the kfan rubes and kfan employees who post here won't), there is some truth to this statement. you rarely, if ever, hear any REAL critques of the vikings (even before this year). they would take snipes at childress and still do, but never the vikings organization/team. it is a fact. kfan is extremely two-faced when it comes to local sports teams. this is why no one of any real standing respects them and the product they put on the air.

kfan and their on-air personalities are hyper-critical of the twins, wolves, wild, gophers. no matter their success on the field or court. they absolutely practice a "hands off" approach when it comes to the vikings. because they are kfan's financial sugar-daddy.

kfan is THE definition of hypocritical. kfan is THE complete opposite of what a real media outlet should strive to be.

Associated Press article

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eric Ellestad's 25-yard field goal with 2:22 remaining gave Minnesota the lead, and the struggling Gophers hung on for an ugly 16-13 victory over lower-division South Dakota State on Saturday.

Minnesota (6-5) settled for a pair of short kicks by Ellestad in the first quarter after driving to the 3- and 8-yard line, respectively. Adam Weber went 10 for 21 for 94 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Derek Domino.

D.L. Wilhite jogged in for a 3-yard touchdown after a fumble forced by blitzing cornerback Michael Carter, the only time the Gophers reached the end zone.

Early misfires by freshman quarterback Thomas O'Brien were too much for the Jackrabbits (7-3) to overcome in just their second game against a Football Bowl Subdivision foe since moving to the Football Championship Subdivision level in 2004.

Peter Reifenrath missed a 25-yard attempt in the third quarter, one of several lost opportunities on a frustrating afternoon for SDSU.

The Jackrabbits, ranked 12th in the latest FCS poll, need to win at Western Illinois next week and hope for an at-large invitation to the playoffs out of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Despite two interceptions and the lost fumble in the first half by O'Brien, who got the start over senior Ryan Crawford, SDSU led 10-6 early in the second quarter, forced the Gophers to punt eight times, and nearly duplicated what conference rival North Dakota State did in 2007 with a 27-21 win over Minnesota at the Metrodome.

After a breakout game in a thrilling 42-34 win over Michigan State two weeks ago, Weber and the Minnesota offense have reverted to their season-long woes. Ranked 106th out of 120 FBS teams in total yards entering the game, the Gophers are missing injured wide receiver Eric Decker badly and not giving Weber any time to throw.

The junior quarterback can't shake the blame, though. For the second straight week, Weber produced the dreaded pick six. Trying to avoid a sack early in the second quarter, Weber rolled to his right, then made a dangerous throw across the field. Domino, one of 10 Jackrabbits players who grew up in Minnesota, jumped in front of the pass and returned it 22 yards for an easy touchdown.

O'Brien was sharper after halftime and finished 15 for 39 for 183 yards.

The Gophers played their final home game of the season at sparkling TCF Bank Stadium, proving again that new buildings don't make teams better. They became bowl eligible with this win, but continue to be stuck in mediocrity under coach Tim Brewster in his third season.

One fan was spotted in the crowd with a sign, "Got Dungy?," a snarky suggestion that athletics director Joel Maturi should fire Brewster and try to hire the Super Bowl-winning former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who played for the Gophers in the 1970s.

i truly hope this happens. i literally want to see kfan burn to the ground. i will even light the first match if they would give me the honor.

seriously though. some of your freaks who post your constant flames on here really need to just buy a house and move in. then you can all hang out, act miserable and post your flames on GH together. it would be much more enjoyable for all of you that way.

you know what they say: "misery - or in this case miserable people - loves company".

think about it.

I used to listen to KFAN quite a bit, but the act over there has run very thin. Outside of the Common Man, for whom the whole world is largely part of an on-going schtick, the place is pretty much cynical and negative. Truth be told, I suppose, that's pretty much what all sports talk radio is about. But it's become increasingly unlistenable.

Anyway, back to the points made here. Jack Brewer, Mason recruit or not, is a pretty sharp guy who was a really good football player whose opinion I would value. If he's being critical, it's clearly not from the vantage point of the ill-informed.

I want to give Brewster more time and for those who think Mason didn't have games like this, check the record more closely. But the team clearly needes to establish an identity and recruit toward that identity. Ferentz gets over-used as an example, but that's the type of program we need to use as a model. It doesn't necessarily have to reflect Iowa's style of play on the field, but we need consistency in approach.

There has been very little to be positive about when it comes to the Gophers.

Many people on KFAN (and elsewhere) take a 'win and get back to me' approach. The Gophers are a mediocre (at best) football team and have been for a long time. So until Brewster actually WINS at a high level, there are going to be plenty of skeptical people. On this forum, skeptical=negative.

There is also nothing wrong with not being an ultra optimistic homer. Winning solves everything and so far Brewster hasn't done much of it. This was his FIRST win in November........in 3 years. How pathetic is that?

Brewster didn't convert any of the 'negatives' by banning people from going on KFAN this year, either. You can say that it was a mis-understanding all you want, but it wasn't. Its not a coincidence that no one from his staff goes on KFAN.

Tell Brewer to go back to his Pro Athlete consultation job....oh, it never existed? PA was kind to put Brewer in a paying gig.

So, you're complaint is that they don't critique the defending division champion 7-1 Vikings team. But they're hyper-critical of a bottom Timberwolves team, one of the worst big ten teams in the Gophers, and a one and done Twins team?

KFAN is EXACTLy what a real media outlet should strive to be. Neutral. Not the garbage you clowns want, a bunch of smoke up your ass about the future of a terrible gopher program with a terrible coach, terrible assistants, terrible quarterback, and on and on. The Twolves are DONE, for at least 3 YEARS. The Wild have exciting hockey that can't win. And you expect them to talk this garbage up? Or a team winning the WORST division in THE ENTIRE SPORT OF BASEBALL, in a play in game? Before being destroyed and swept by the Yankees?

Man you people are DELUSIONAL.

I am not a fan of KFAN but I agree with a lot of what you say and those that keep complaining and saying they want the media here to represent the "real" media of the larger markets such as Chicago or New York should be careful. The New York media was ripping on some of the yankee players as they are winning the world series. These big market writers some call for would be ripping this team 1000 times more than they get here now.

It wouldn't make for good radio, but I just get tired of all the snark and smack on KFAN. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd rather learn something I didn't know as opposed to just getting a bunch of trash tossed at me by a radio announcer who knows diddly about the games on which he (or she) is commenting. At least Brewer is someone who knows what he's talking about.

But the rest of the KFAN crew is mindless at best. When Mike Morris is the smartest guy at your station, 'nuff said.

I agree.

I would also say that they bag on the Vikes plenty, its just that the Vikes are winning right now. Its not like anyone ever ripped Mike Tice, Daunte Culpepper, Love Boat, etc.........oh wait, they did.
