Would Iowa have been different with Leidner behind center?

Everyone will say yes...but the answer is probably no.

Leidner stats looked good today but all they did was throw to rb's and te's. He doesn't have the zip that Nelson does and I don't think he can make the throws to the outside receivers. That being said...he clearly is making better decisions, has a better feel in the pocket, and is a superior runner.

Will be interesting to see going forward. I would like to see both in every game and go with the hot hand. The coaches seem pretty bullheaded about the 1 qb system though. Would seem to be an advantage making your opponent prepare for both...lord knows we need any advantage we can get.

Who cares? You can't go back and change it. The question you should ask is are the Gophers better with Leidner under center against NW? I say yes.

Both Leidner and Nelson are average and ordinary quarterback. Leidner is a stronger runner and has a better feel of his right end. Nelson can complete passes to receivers and is more accurate down field.

What do you base that on? Point to one game this year where he's been more accurate than Leidner on balls thrown downfield. You say Leidner is the stronger runner, but all indications are that Leidner also has the stronger arm.

That being said, until the coaching staff is willing to allow for a more complicated passing attack, we will not see any major difference between Leidner or Nelson. In either case, Iowa would have beat us by the same margin.

His presence to actually run and have Iowa's D honor it may have created a different dynamic in the game. We may have had significantly fewer 3 and outs which always help a Defense.

Having said that, it is impossible to predict whether or not the score would have been different. Our Defense was manhandled and we had no answer for outside zone play.

For you guys that follow mn hs football more closely, which one was considered the better passer coming out of hs?

Who cares. Leidner is clearly better and Kill was wrong to start Nelson, who wasn't fully healthy.

Im believe they played in different classes if football, Mankato played in the lower class thaN Lakeville. Not that class has a whole to determine skill. Somewhat equally rated players could be hard to distinguish ability, based off of competition.

This is hard to say considering that Nelson didn't play at the big school level. Leidner played in a much tougher conference in high school and did extremely well. Nelson did very well, but his competition was not against the same level as Leidner.

Hard to say or project, perhaps they would have started the Iowa game with the same Energy level they displayed in the first half against Michigan. Right now it look's like Leidner might give them a better chance to execute plays. If Nelson want's the job back he is going to have to practice his craft and get significantly better with his footwork, huddle pressence, timing, and everything else. That and learn your teamates are there to make plays for you, you don't have to just depend on yourself to make plays. Leidner and Nelson could both learn a lesson about that. The sooner they progress at that the better. That and this team desperately needs to recruit better wide receivers.

No. Better but still a loss.

Yep. Nelson couldn't run therefore we didn't have one of our weapons. Mitch would have given us another option, but the team simply wasn't ready to beat Iowa.
