Worst to best writer in one article...Souhan

Even it you think it's great, I am not going to reward him with a click.

I do have to give him credit for this line about Jerry Kill: "In the land of the unsighted, the one-eyed man is king."

I'm not too proud of a gopher fan to say that is right in so many ways LOL.

I clicked on the link, read Souey's article, chugged my Phillips screwdriver (Milk of Magnesia with vodka) , $hit my pants, wiped with Tucks, used my tongue to lick the bottom of the birdcage, poured rubbing alcohol on my wrists after slitting them, but other than that, it was fun.

It's a good take. Holding petty grudges over every media member who writes something you don't like is silly. He knows nothing about college basketball, but his take here is good. The last paragraph is apt for those hoarding their clicks:

He arrived at the U when the Gophers athletic department was successful. Gopherdom has been hurtling downhill ever since, and instead of slamming brakes or seizing the wheel, Gentleman Joel has stared out the windshield at the fluffy clouds in the distance. One of them looks just like a unicorn.

LOL! If you don't laugh your @ss off at that comment you hate yourself. That was just classic

Souhan has become a huge asset to Gopher fans, this is something like his 4th anti-Maturi article over the last year; I for one appreciate those and Badger Joel is a fuc&ing @ss clown.

Lose and have a terrible season............ get an extension from Badger Joel. If there was any doubt he was a Badger fan in disguise the proof will be in these extensions he'll push through before his @ss gets canned.

Big deal. He's recycling the idea that's been thrown around on this board and in other forums for years. Tom Barnard, who admittedly has little or no knowledge about the U and its athletics has been bitching about Maturi for years.

Well Eric Kaler probably hasn't been reading the Star Tribune for years. Hopefully he is now.

There is one sign of hope, Maturi giving Lucia an extension is a sure sign that he will be fired within a year or two.

It's not THAT great a column. It wasn't amusing or interesting, and I learned absolutely nothing new from it. It was mostly accurate, I'll give it that. Maturi does indeed suck. To those who are barely aware of the Gophers (admittedly a lot of people), this must seem like an incredible revelation.

Phillips...gross

Kaler has to have a say in the Lucia extension, doesn't he? Why would you extend someone who has taken a once proud program and turned it in to the joke of the WCHA?

How Maturi still has a job is unfathomable. He continues to cost the university millions.

Souhan is the worst sports columnist at the Star and Tribune ever. He doesn't know sh*t about running a Big 10 athletics department. And whats more, Souhan doesn't even care that he doesn't know anything. He knows how easy it is to get GopherHolers to start jacking-off when he writes a column like this one.

The only person Maturi has to please is Bob Bruininks. If any of you have ever taken the time to read or listen to Bruininks talk about Maturi you would know he absolutely loves the guy. Kaler is going to love Maturi for exactly the same reasons as Bruininks. Joel isn't going anywhere when Kaler takes over. When he ends his career at the U it will be at a time of his own choosing. You all better get used to the idea.

That doesn't mean Maturi doesn't suck at his job. He does. Souhan's column was right on the money. 100% correct.

Even a blind squirrel finds his nuts every once in a while.

Let's meet out on the street corner, Soupcan. I'll bring the plucker.

It's a good take. Holding petty grudges over every media member who writes something you don't like is silly. He knows nothing about college basketball, but his take here is good. The last paragraph is apt for those hoarding their clicks:

Agree. I hate Souhan. He's self-centered. He's egotistical. But he's also absolutely correct on this one. Maturi is intent on pushing Gopher athletics further into the mud. Not surprising. After all, he's more worried about "having fun" and kissing babies than actually doing his job.

The crappy thing about this article is this: I went over to the Strib site, which I do most mornings and guess which story is at the top of the list for "Most viewed" articles?

I truly believe that he'll write anything to generate clicks. I don't think he cares what he writes or genuinely know about what he writes. That is why I don't click on him.

Souhan finally figured out what everyone else has known for years.

His lack of knowledge of collegiate sports astounds me.

I don't think so. When he arrived to the "successful" athletic department. Mason was getting well established in Mediocrity, Hasken's had blown the BB department out of the water with scandal and NCAA penalties and it was in the budget was in the red.

Souhan is a Reusse wannabe only trying to do it with a little more flair. Problem is in his supposed cleverness, he totaally misses the point.

Maturi's no great shakes (understatement), but I tend to agree with calminfan here. Let's not forget that Maturi took over a newly-merged program as well. I can only imagine all the whelps that went up after that happened. That said, Maturi hasn't done that well, but I can't understand the animus. Disappointment? Yes. Animus? Hardly.

As for Souhan, I've always thought that it takes him about 15 minutes of work to throw together a column. This one looks like it at least took 20. He's still the laziest guy on the beat (and half as good a writer as Reusse).

Souham couldn't think of another negative article to write about so he picked on the U again. Sure we have issues, but we don't need them broadcast all over the place everytime he writes an article. I wasn't impress.

I don't like Souhan at all, but this article says it about as well as anything has so far.

I agree completely. Maturi has confused activity with success. We will really really try hard to win more games.....give me a break.

this is one thing amongst many I don't understand about this board. yes the local media is generally negative towards all things Gopher sports related but the hatred around here towards pretty much everything that is written or said comes off silly and IMO thicker skin is needed.

There is a huge difference between legitimate criticism and outright ridicule. The media in New York, Chicago, and LA may get very critical of their local teams but they don't make a joke out of them the way the Twin Cities sports media does with the Gophers. When the Vikings are going bad nobody is laughing about it. They are pissed because they care about the team. Very few members of the Twin Cities sports media care about the Gophers. They are much more interested in getting cheap laughs at their expense. For that reason they can all go screw themselves as far as I am concerned.

this post is exactly what I am talking about.

and why do they have to care? just because they work for the media in this town doesn't mean they need to have any affinty towards the University.

But their audience/customers do.
