This week: W, vs. Nebraska, 24-6

Previous ranking: 13

Hi/Lo: 9/14

Didn’t see this one coming. Even entering the game at 4-2, Minnesota appeared to be somewhat on the ropes, but PJ Fleck’s team found a way to eke out a convincing, but ugly win over Nebraska. The defense was very good, holding the Huskers to two early field goals – and that’s it. The nine sacks on Dylan Raiola meant that there was only 36 rushing yards given up. The Minnesota offense wasn’t exactly burning the candle at both ends, but it did enough to get the dub.

Can anyone explain how you "eke out a convincing but ugly win"?

I can’t explain it either because it was a beautiful victory. The defense shut down a previously prolific offense with disciplined play and getting in the backfield all game. The offense was efficient with big plays and burned the clock to wind the game down.

Both during the game at TCF and rewatching it last night the QB scrambles for often decent gains (running or with a pass) were not a good look that might have contributed to this guy's opinion as a "neutral" observer. Nebbie's overall yardage stats got blown up by all the sacks so the scrambling gains just do not show up in the aggregate stats.

BTW, those QB scrambles were driving Mrs. Billd nuts. She gets that way some times.

That 98 yard, 9-minute drive was peak PJ Fleck offense. Efficient, a little boring, and suffocating. It was beautiful.
helped multiple times by undisciplined play by the Nebraska defense. It's his perfect recipe for winning without risking anything.

Ugly here is being used to mean "low scoring", I guess.

In the same article, Michgan's 24-7 win versus unranked Washington was referred to multiple times as "dominating", "everything was working" and "could have been an epic blowout"
Yeah....we absolutely dominated the second half. Rhule in his post game read off some of the second half stats and you could see how we never gave them a chance. The Purdue win was ugly.....the Nebraska win was convincing.

I was kind of impressed by the guy describing the win as eked out and convincing in the same sentence.

This is how we win games. Great defense and run the ball. We can control the clock. We suffocated them in the second half. Rinse and repeat next Saturday.

He thinks he's Mahomes and he is not even in the same Area code.

Comparing the descriptions of Minnesota's performance with that of Meatchicken's performance is comical.

Minnesota beats a ranked 5-1 team 24-6, and it's "convincing but ugly."
The Smithereens beat an unranked 5-1 team 24-7, and "everything is working."

True, but he couldn’t keep it up all game. I bet the Purdue QB drove Mrs. Billd freaking nuts because that guy broke containment all day and then some.

I take it to mean it wasn’t an amazing game offensively. For MN yes it was a step forwards. A big step. Defensively MN was dominant.

I think maybe the writer just came across the wrong way. At least it wasn’t AI crap.
