per the WSJ:
The Gophers are playing well, but they haven’t played well enough in each of the past 11 years to beat the Badgers.
UW has won every game in the series since 2003, the longest winning streak in the FBS’s most-played rivalry, and Minnesota hope everything aligns for them to steal Paul Bunyan’s Axe back this season.
The Gophers will be playing at home Saturday and will have Kill at the game to participate in Senior Day activities. At 5-6 on the season, they’ll also be fighting to become bowl-eligible for the fourth straight year.
“We’ve been here five years. We haven’t won it yet,” said Claeys, who was Kill’s defensive coordinator before Kill stepped down. “It’s the one trophy game here at the University of Minnesota that we have not been able to get in Coach (Kill’s) career. With him being in attendance at the game, it would be a huge event and very exciting for everybody involved.”
