Wisconsin is like a cat that always lands on its feet but somehow deep down I always feel like (keeping with a cat theme) the 9 lives will be up. I am one of those guys that is old enough to remember how MN and WS got to be rivals for more reasons than just a shared border. Historically the athletic programs have trended toward similar levels, and this tends to make for rivals. Of course this hasn't been the case for 20 or so years now as Wisconsin has taken an obvious leap beyond our rodents. I do believe that eventually things will trend back the other direction.
2008 seemed like BB might be headed in the wrong direction. Coaching change complaints swirled. Not the case, as the Badgers rebounded quickly. 2012 started with a lot of questions around a greatly depleted coaching staff. Good programs losing a coordinator to a head coaching job happens all the time. Losing coaches to the degree Wisconsin lost them seemed like it could be another sign of an implosion. Again, not the case. However, with BB now leaving and not even giving Wisconsin a chance to match the Arkansas offer, it appears they could again be in a tight spot.
Often, successful programs tend to reload by promoting coordinators, especially ones like Wisconsin that are built on a system that has proven to be good in their corner of the world. But in this case you've got the defection by a large chunk of the staff, followed by the departure of the head coach. Unless someone like PC can be hired to come in as a logical progression, it leaves Wisconsin with the conflict of bringing in a new guy. New guys tend to want their own staffs, and to run their own style of offense and defense. The transition from BA to BB worked so well because it was such a logical continuation of what BA had built. If they bring in someone like Al Golden, or any of the other outside names being thrown around, I feel like there is a lot of danger for them to pull the wrong piece of wood out of their jenga tower.
