Wisconsin is like a cat that always lands on its feet but somehow deep down I always feel like (keeping with a cat theme) the 9 lives will be up. I am one of those guys that is old enough to remember how MN and WS got to be rivals for more reasons than just a shared border. Historically the athletic programs have trended toward similar levels, and this tends to make for rivals. Of course this hasn't been the case for 20 or so years now as Wisconsin has taken an obvious leap beyond our rodents. I do believe that eventually things will trend back the other direction.

2008 seemed like BB might be headed in the wrong direction. Coaching change complaints swirled. Not the case, as the Badgers rebounded quickly. 2012 started with a lot of questions around a greatly depleted coaching staff. Good programs losing a coordinator to a head coaching job happens all the time. Losing coaches to the degree Wisconsin lost them seemed like it could be another sign of an implosion. Again, not the case. However, with BB now leaving and not even giving Wisconsin a chance to match the Arkansas offer, it appears they could again be in a tight spot.

Often, successful programs tend to reload by promoting coordinators, especially ones like Wisconsin that are built on a system that has proven to be good in their corner of the world. But in this case you've got the defection by a large chunk of the staff, followed by the departure of the head coach. Unless someone like PC can be hired to come in as a logical progression, it leaves Wisconsin with the conflict of bringing in a new guy. New guys tend to want their own staffs, and to run their own style of offense and defense. The transition from BA to BB worked so well because it was such a logical continuation of what BA had built. If they bring in someone like Al Golden, or any of the other outside names being thrown around, I feel like there is a lot of danger for them to pull the wrong piece of wood out of their jenga tower.

If they had a run of the mill AD I'd agree. I'm also of the opinion that iowa will eventually run a decade of being a doormat program after Ferentz leaves. We've lived through what poor coaching hires can do to a middle of the road program.

Now. Badger idiots will tell you they are a perennial top 10 program. They are not.
They would be not much different than us had they never hired a legendary coach.

Which brings me to the point. Joel Maturi isn't in charge in Madison. Alvarez will not fumble this decision no matter the pickle they're in.

They will have money to spend, and a solid foundation to sell. Barry will either find a solid up and comer to handle things until Chryst gets the call, or he'll just hire Chryst and screw over Pitt. Either way he's gonna find a coach that will not rock the boat or change the formula he crafted back in the 90's.

They'll be ok, for us let's just hope he's arrogant enough to hire someone too green or with an ego that butts heads with him.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they hire internally with an undertanding that Chryst is just waiting to get Pitt in a better spot before he leaves them with their 5th coach in 6 or 7 years.

If they hire Chryst they will win 9/10 games next year.

If they go off the wall and pick some random spread oriented guy or a Brewster type they could be around .500.

They don't lose much next year.

They are in a tight spot, but I think Ole sums it up nicely. This is a huge hire for Barry and I have to believe he is not going to *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# it up. Is it possible he does? Sure it is. But Alvarez knows what made the program, knows what works and I can't imagine he is going to hire a guy that is not going to continue the thing in his blueprint. If he does, then he opens himself up to huge criticism. The Badgers fan base, especially the new breed, the people that don't remember the dark days, will have very little tolerance for a slide back to mediocrity. That is where the new dough is and where the future fan base is. It is a whole new dynamic there.

The beauty of the situation is that everyone on this board has to be devastated that Bielema is gone. You all thought he was a terrible coach and would eventually lead the program to the depths of despair. All he did was go 7-0 against the Gophers and go to three Rose Bowls. So the guy leaves and what could happen? A good coach could actually be hired. If Bielema could do what he did to the Gophers program, imagine what a guy could do who could actually coach? It is all so beautiful, I can't stand it.

As for the Jerry Kill thread, Kill may be the coach at UW after they call me and I turn it down and I guarantee I would take the job. Nothing against Kill, his record speaks for itself, but for someone on the radio to speculate like that is absolutely absurd.

Wrong board, it's been Buckyville that's been in full meltdown. Highly entertaining too!

Just watch Barry will lead them to another rose bowl win and they will make a home run hire like Chris Peterson. Somehow the sun always shines and those sobs.

It must be very painful that your dream coach who you thought was a loyal Badger just traded you in for Arkansas. You thought you were big time, but have now realized you're still just wisky...

All he did was go 7-0 against the Gophers and go to three Rose Bowls.

All he did was beat up on Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois and Northwestern where things get really ugly his record is under .500 against OSU, Michigan, and Penn State. If anybody believes Wisconsin is a top 10 program needs their head examined.

Y'all must be pretty young bucks. Wiscy was a terrible, terrible, terrible program for years and years before Alvarez (and Shalala) turned it around. No real reason to think they won't sink back into the slime.

They should be just fine next year. Things may get a little interesting in 2014 for them. They lose a ton on defense after next season and I don't follow their recruiting close enough to know what they've got ready to plug in.

GVBadger, you're just a Quisling so I really have no respect for anything you write.

I just like to keep saying this, "Brett left Wisconsin after 3 Big Ten Championships to go to Arkansas, YES ARKANSAS, who has never won anything ever in the SEC!" Eat Shi__t Bucky!

At this point do you hope for BB to do well to piss off the Badger fans (who by the way sound quite a bit different today than they did defending all his jack-ass-er-y-ness in the past), or do you cheer against him due to the B1G implications? I hate the SEC.

I hope he gets exposed as a buffoon. I also hope that Wisconsin's hire turns out to be a failure.

Regardless of who the coach is, I always cheer against the SEC - and that now includes OSU and SEC-lite. (Watch me have to eat my words if Barry, for unfathomable reasons, recruits out of the SEC...)

Kill and his staff should be cutthroat - go after all of the Bucky recruits now that they don't have a coach.

Can we have a moratorium on all the beer-muscles posts about Wisconsin?

They consistently kick our a$$.

I've seen RUSH twice in the last three years. I thought the newest album was meh. The previous one was sweeeeet.
