As of now the Wisconsin game time on 10/3 is TBA. My issue is that I will be running the Twin Cities Marathon the next day and am REALLY hoping that this is not an evening game. If it is, I will probably leave at half-time. So, I am trying to figure out when it might be so I can plan accordingly.

Based on my experience, the latest the BT will scheule a game is 12 days before a game, so we should know for sure on or before September 21 (a week from today). At that point, no BT team will have played a conference rival.

Here are the games that weekend:
11:00 Northwestern @ Purdue (ESPN, ESPN2 or BTN)
6:00 Ohio State @ Indiana (BTN)
7:00 USC @ Cal (obviously not a BT game, but it takes the night-time ABC slot)
Wisconsin @ Minnesota (TBA)
Michigan @ MSU (TBA)
Illinois @ Penn State (TBA)
Arkansas State @ Iowa (TBA)

And here's the potential remaining tv slots:
11:00 ESPN
11:00 ESPN2
11:00 BTN
11:00 BTN alternate game (there is no way that Ark St. @ Iowa gets any better than this spot)
2:30 ABC
6:45 ESPN - ? is this a typical big ten slot?

Any insight, thoughts or guesses on when we'll play and on what channel?

It will almost certainly be an 11am start, but as far as channel goes, that's up in the air. I would think ESPN2 'cause ESPN1 will be humping Forcier and RichRod for the next few weeks, hard.

I think it will all depend on this weekend's games. Everyone is jocking Michigan right now, but if MSU goes to South Bend this weekend and begins 1-2, that will take some of the luster of that game which otherwise might have been a shoe in for the 2:30 slot. Illinois/PSU has the feeling of an 11 am kick on ESPN probably.

Ark St and Iowa will easily be 11 am BTN alternate
I think NW/PUR will get the other 11 am BTN slot.

So basicially to sum up. If Michigan State beats Notre Dame this weekend. I think UM/MSU gets the 2:30 and we get the 11 AM slot on the deuce. If MSU loses to the Golden Domers, I think that game gets ESPN @ 11, ILL/PSU is on the deuce and we get the 2:30 kick.

If it's between MI/MI St and MN/WI for a 2:30 ABC game, there's no chance in hell they pick us. Regardless of circumstances.

My guess is it shakes down like this:

Purdue-Northwestern - BTN, 11am
Iowa-Arkansas State - BTN (overflow), 11am
Michigan-Michigan State - ESPN, 11am
Minnesota-Wisconsin - ESPN2, 11am
Illinois- Penn State - ABC, 2:30pm
Ohio State-Indiana, BTN, 6pm

Don't be so sure. We all for sure thought the game last year was destined to be an 11 am kick, and then ABC went and made it a 2:30....

There are certainly scenarios where Minn/Wisc get the 2:30 slot. Ultimately though, I'd plan for 11 and be pleasantly surprised with 2:30.

ABC also could go 11AM on the Michigan-Michigan State game....they've done this in the past with that game.

Personally I think Minnesota-Wisconsin is a better 2:30 game than Penn State-Illinois due to the rivalry component, but that's just me.

If I was a betting man, I'd say 11AM simply because of the number of options available.

I would add that the possibility of Wisc/MN being a better and more exciting game than Penn St/IL may influence their decission... who wants to watch a blowout for the entire game? Advertisers hate that....

That is true for only the people inside of the rivalry. People outside of the rivalry don't care all that much.

My guess for the PSU-ILL game being the 2:30 slot has more to do with the TV markets that game brings into play (#3 Chicago, #4 Philadelphia, #6 Washington DC, #21 St. Louis, and #22 Pittsburgh). TV execs and advertisers definitely pay attention to that.

PSU brings the NY market too. That means more then the others combined.

I break the chances down as:

65%: 11 AM most likely on ESPN
25: 2:30 on ABC
10%: at night either on an ESPN or somehow on the BTN (unlikely)

I'd prefer 2:30 since I'm flying in the night before and would like a buffer against flight issues.

Yeah Wiscy plays some unwatchable football :p.

And everytime I post this picture somewhere, it makes Wisconsin even more unwatchable...

I think it might have more to do with us as well, if we beat Cal, that would go a long way...potentially 2 undefeated teams playing in a new stadium. I think there is a chance.

Perhaps true, but last year, Minnesota-Wisconsin was a 2:30 game while Ohio State-Illinois was a 11AM game.

We should know in a week or so.

Our games against Wisconsin have been the 2:30 game numerous times over the years hasn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if this year was another year.

Game Time

My brother lives in Columbus and he told me that Ohio State's field does not have lights so when there is a night game they have to bring in the big portable lights. At time this could be a factor especially if the network has to pay for them.

Unless they've removed their lights since 2002, this is incorrect. I went to the Gopher game at the Horseshoe that year and it was a 3:30 PM EST kickoff. Since the game was in November, most of the 2nd half was in the dark and under the lights. Also, IIRC, the #1 vs. #2 Ohio St/Michigan game a couple of years ago at the Horseshoe was late in the day and under the lights as well. If they do bring in portable lights, it doesn't appear to be a big enough hassle for them to avoid scheduling it.

Basically, Michigan, Ohio St, and Penn St. are the darlings of the Big Ten. Generally, the 2:30 slot is going to be reserved for a game that contains at least one of those 3. The exceptions being weeks where 2 of the 3 are playing each other in the night game. If the 3rd team is playing a pastsy, you might see 2 other teams playing at 2:30.

The week we play Wisconsin has all 3 of the afore mentioned teams playing separate games. Ohio St. has already been scheduled to play Indiana in the night game. Penn St. is playing Illinois while Michigan is playing Michigan St. Since that is a rivaly game, I would bet that game is played at 2:30. If Michigan and Michigan St. play poorly between now and then, it's possible the Gopher/Badger game will be at 2:30. However, if Minnesota and Wisconsin also post average to below average results, the 2:30 game could go to the Penn St/Illinois game.

The 2 things in favor of a Gopher/Badger 2:30 start are that it's the longest rivalry in FBS college football, and the new stadium factor. That being said, based on the networks choices that week, I would be surprised if it isn't Michigan and Michigan St. playing at 2:30.

Do we know when this decision is announced?
