Yeah it's probably something stupid considering the Badgers have had no issues with the other 100 guys who have gone into the portal so far, but any bad publicity for them is a win.Not legal.
But also, I'm sure it's something stupid like Margie in Compliance who is tasked with entering players into the portal has been enjoying too many brandys on an extended Christmas break.
26 transfers out (and counting) including the entire QB room and a 4* freshman who got significant reps this season (Lucas). They can play pretend that they are "upgrading", but none of it is a good look. Not a great look...
Yeah I don't know what is up at Wisc, it doesn't seem like they're bringing in a lot.26 transfers out (and counting) including the entire QB room and a 4* freshman who got significant reps this season (Lucas). They can play pretend that they are "upgrading", but none of it is a good look.
Minnesota and Iowa are not losing guys on this scale, and never have.
I think it is two different issues for Nebraska and Wisconsin. For Nebraska it is likely more related to roster size and the 105 limit next year. I read the they had around 150 on their roster last year with a lot of walk-on players. Next year they can only have 105 total. The coach likely had to tell a lot of players sorry but no place for you next year. Might as well move on and try the portal. The Wisconsin roster was much closer to 105 with a number I saw of 116. I think their guys are jumping ship. Fickell needs to win next year or he is gone. Their schedule is brutalYeah I don't know what is up at Wisc, it doesn't seem like they're bringing in a lot.
Neb lost a lot of guys too but supposedly it was "expected" so yeah that can be true and you can be upgrading or hoping to and so on.
Better dead than redThe wheels are coming off....I hope.
I hope not, I kind of like this version of Wisconsin the way it is.The wheels are coming off....I hope.
Yeah that makes sense with Nebraska.I think it is two different issues for Nebraska and Wisconsin. For Nebraska it is likely more related to roster size and the 105 limit next year. That changing your identity is what doomed Brew. He realized too late that he can’t get the caliber of player he needs to run the spread and he ran out of time to transition. Kill came in and wanted to build the trenches and pound the rock. PJ has continued. I hope we can run better next year because I’m not sure you can count on another Max caliber QB being in the room.Problems with Wisconsin:
1.) The offensive identity they choose did not work with the base of players they had, so they lost some of the base players and could not contend with Ohio States of this world to bring in top tier WR's and QB's to make a quick transition. WI does not have take 3-4 years and build it fanbase.
2.) They went 5-7 with humiliating losses where they were dominated to IA, NE and MN (the core rivals group).
3.) The pipeline to the NFL was already weakening under Cryst and they do not seem to have NFL talent on either side of the ball at this time.
4.) They had a losing team and next year they will be lucky to get to 6 wins even with a good team because of a brutal schedule (the most they can really hope for is to be competitive and pull off an upset or two because they are developing players).
5.) The switch back to a more WI traditional offense has upset the the players they recruited and hence a lot are leaving. They are bringing in some good players with NIL and playing time availability, but not in a way that changes the winning percentage of next years team.
If Fickel doesn't have the team competing he is gone --> if they have a losing record but are competitive he may get an additional year. However, if they do switch what do they do? My guess if they are a .500 team, the coach stays, AD goes and they let someone else hire the next coach a year later or let Fickell. It will be hard for this AD to rebuild trust with "old gaurd."
I like the direction MN is going and really see potential of being the dominant team of the upper Midwest. WI is down, IA is good but don't see it lasting and NE is NE.
Don't get me wrong. I'm glad we're not Nebraska, but I'm not really sure what direction we are going. Hovering around .500 direction? I guess it's better than a dumpster fire.Problems with Wisconsin:

I don't really care about the player, you could have just stopped with the title of the thread
