Following an exhibition against UW-Platteville on Nov. 5, the Badgers open the regular season with three-straight home games. A rematch with Charlotte (21-10) on Nov. 12 is followed by home games against Green Bay and Southern University (16-17).

Wisconsin spends the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. Virgin Islands, participating in the Paradise Jam. UW will take on Syracuse, George Washington and Vanderbilt (14-16) in that tournament.

After returning from the Islands, the Badgers travel to Pittsburgh (13-17) on Nov. 29 for the 11th-annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Wisconsin kicks off December with a home game against La Salle (17-13) on Dec. 2. UW faces in-state opponent Marquette in Milwaukee on Dec. 4, is home Dec. 6 vs. UT Rio Grande Valley then plays at Butler on Dec. 12. UW hosts Savanah State on Dec. 10 before it wraps up the non-conference season against Milwaukee at home on Dec. 14

Chuck Grassley is an idiot.

MADISON, Wis. - The head coach of the Badgers women's basketball team is defending his players after a U.S. senator criticized one on Twitter for not standing during the playing of the national anthem.


U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley tweeted that Iowa constituents asked him why junior Marsha Howard did not stand for the playing of the national anthem before Wisconsin's game at Iowa.

He then encouraged people to express their outrage to the university.

Head coach Jonathan Tsipis confirmed that Howard has been staying in the tunnel at Badger home games to protest gun violence -- not the national anthem -- since the beginning of the season.

He said she did not want any attention focused on her, which is why she hasn't been on the floor at the Kohl Center. At Iowa, that wasn't an option, because the Badgers bench wasn't near a hallway or an exit, so she chose not to stand.

Tsipis said that Howard is from inner-city Chicago and feels strongly against gun violence. He added that he is proud of her and his players and stands by them.
