I’m sure you heard the chatter this week. With the Golden Gophers rolling this season, the voices of praise were getting louder on national media, on blogs, on social media, and even among casual fans. Up next was a 3-4 Purdue team that had earlier in the season lost to Central Michigan by three touchdowns. The Gophers were an unbelievable 12 ½ point favorite over another Big Ten team. Yes, I heard the chatter. The Gophers were the next big thing. The Boilermakers were garbage. The game on Saturday was going to be a blowout.
To those people I say, “Hi, you must be new here. Welcome to being a Golden Gopher fan.”
I want everyone to repeat after me, “Nothing comes easily for Gopher fans.” Now, repeat that about 10 more times and you’ll finally start to understand Saturday’s thrilling/nerve-wracking/headscratching 39-38 Homecoming win over Purdue in front of 51,241 raucous fans at TCF Stadium.
