Minnesota's Chris Williamson had himself a day. He's physically well built but not rigid, and he's capable of uprooting receivers off their route stems when playing in the contact window. His moment in the spotlight was one of a handful of player-versus-player matchups at the end of the late practice — a rep where both the offense and defense gathered to watch some of their best matchup with one another. Williamson's rep featured, as seen above, a savvy move to slip into the inside hip of his man before working his eyes back to the ball and converting into the receiver and tracking down the interception.

If Williamson stays sticky the rest of the week, he's going to make himself some money.

With the NFL moving more and more to spread looks, versatile corners like Chris are going to become all the more valuable. He was rock solid for us in the slot, would love to see him find a way onto an NFL roster. It’s still a long way out but I think Durr will be a sleeper next year that similarly rises while going through the draft process. Looking forward to seeing where these guys land.
 

Do we have a list of which Gophers are playing in various post season games?

I think you are absolutely right. Williamson played a hybrid position for us similar to a lot of pro defensive sets and he has the right set of skills to earn a shot in the NFL.

Williamson and Johnson were both supposed to be at the Shrine game, but Johnson withdrew himself.

Coughlin and Martin got Senior Bowl invites but Martin won't participate due to his knee injury.
 


The defensive backs were a team strength this year. Williamson was fun to watch. I wonder how much of that is raw talent-based (obviously Winfield et al) and prior coaching and how much related to Joe Harasymiak? PJ has given him high praise at times.

Do we know why Johnson withdrew? Is he hoping to get an invite to a better game? Or is he letting his performance against Auburn do the talking and hoping for a Combine invite?

I never saw what the official word was on why he withdrew, but people have speculated that there might not be much he can do to improve on his stock at the Shrine game after he blew up against Auburn.

He will get a combine invite for sure.
 

So if you play in that game.... do you get one of those cool hats?
 



Take it for what it's worth, but Doogie said on SKOR NORTH that Tyler withdrew because he's training out west. Rodney was supposed to be there, but dinged up his knee in the bowl game so isn't participating.
