Will the TCU loss sting less as the year progresses?

So TCU took care of business in convincing fashion against an inferior opponent.

TCU 56, SMU 0
600+ yards of offense.

They are climbing the power rankings of the Big 12.

Who thinks this loss will hurt less at the end of the year? Let's see how they do first against some better BIG 12 teams.

A win over SMU right now is like if we beat Hamline. It means nothing.

But based on our results, especially yesterday with Michigan, it stings a lot less. I'm all for losing a non-conference game if it means winning more conference games.

If TCU beats OU next week, I'll feel better.

TCU was better than I expected, but the Gophers just played poorly. 5-turnovers. Just one of those games. In the rear-view mirror already for me.

I said early that TCU would be tougher than most B1G opponents we face this year. Never like to lose, but that one does not sting.

Playing that bad stings no matter how good the opponent is. Obviously, the Big 12 season will show how strong TCU really is, maybe they really are bonafide Big 12 contenders. At the end of the day though, a great Big 10 season will leave me not too concerned about what happened in an OOC game (unless, of course, we run the table and then wonder if us wetting the bed that game cost us a sport in the playoff).

Enjoyed watching y'all beat up on Michigan in the Big House yesterday. Congrats on the big W!

Thanks frog, glad you guys beat up on SMU. Really hoping to see your boys roll through the Big 12 (that is a product of a combination of self-interest and genuine appreciation for the quality of your fans).

For a team like us that's not in the hunt for a playoff berth or even really a NYD bowl the NC record doesn't really matter, especially on the road against a quality opponent. Where we finish in conference is what's important

If TCU beats OU next week it will be a game-changer. That would be enough to push them well into the Top 20.
Then they have Baylor, and the winner of that game would have the inside track to becoming Big12 champion (and a likely playoff berth comes with it).

The loss to TCU was educational. Claeys has spent some time with the master Patterson. The Gophers will get a chance to show the master what they have learned next year .

BTW, TCU is currently sitting at #2 in the nation in total defense. Certainly leads credence to the argument they are the best defense we'll see all season.

The loss at TCU means nothing...if it keeps us out of the playoff I guess I'll eat some crow.

I was thinking we beat TCU and lose to Michigan going into the season. I'm fine they flip flopped.

I think TCU did us a favor with that cold bucket of water wake up call. TCU showed up and we didn't so that's on us and more power to them. It stung at the time but time heals all things and looking back we learned a lot from that game.

BTW, I was at the TCU game and while I have absolutely no regrets as it was a great experience, I do regret not being in Ann Arbor. As much as I enjoyed yelling at my idiot box, there is no substitute for being at the game. Kudos to all the Gopher fans who made the trip!

I wasn't bothered by losing to TCU, it was how we lost...

In the long run though, I think it paid dividends yesterday. Much better to go play at Michigan having experienced a true road game against stiff competition than last year's NMSU affair...

Fully agree. We got our butts kicked because we didn't play with intensity and didn't take care of the ball. It was a learning experience but was an out of conference learning experience. I like that the team seemed to move on immediately though

The loss stinging less will have nothing to do with TCU's season performance and everything to do with Minnesota's.

If TCU goes 12-0 and the gophers go 4-8 the loss won't sting less.
If MN goes 10-2 and TCU goes 6-6, the loss will sing less.

Ha, agree completely as for your Gophs and the B1G. Enjoyed having y'all down here in Texas and looking forward to making the trip up North next year. Just saw the Frogs entered the Coaches' Poll this week at #25. Could be short lived. Next three games are vs. #3 Oklahoma, at #6 Baylor, and vs. #23 Oklahoma State.

Watching the Game the TCU loss didn't bother me the turnovers were grating that game big time. I did not realize how really banged up #7 Leidner and #27 Cobb and #52 Epping and Lauer all were going in to that football game. Cobb and Mitch both having lost mobility hurt. We got pummled the right side of the O-line that whole game.
Not saying the outcome would have been different but the Gophers would have been more competitive with better health, and more shifting up front. TCU is definitely the best non-conference opponent we have played in the last 10 years and that includes USC and California. They were much better on offense than I thought they would be. Already knew they had a stout defense especially the defensive front.

Ranked 25 in this weeks poll.

I am looking forward to see how we play against them when they come up here next year. I think the outcome will be different.

+five

I like that we get another crack at a legit NC opponent - this time at home.

Yes. I don't think that anyone suspected TCU was this good. It turns out that they might be one of the best teams in the Big 12.

No, we didn't compete well on O. Gotta be able to show up and compete.

What? Losing to a solid TCU team is much different than losing to a 4-8 TCU team. I'll bet you $12 that they finish in the top three in the Big 12.

TCU has scored 31 in the first half against the 5th ranked team.
