Watching Sparty dismantle Oakland on the BTN, I realized Tubby is 0-7 against the 2 elite B10 programs the past 2 years. Will it be 0-11 or 0-12 after this year or do they finally beat Izzo and/or Painter?

Art, you are asking people to make a projection into the future (called guessing). The ones who guess correctly will say "I told you so", but we will never hear anything except complaining from those who guess wrong. Moot point on your question, IMO.

Absolutely! Maybe in wrestling or Women's hockey.

What an idiotic thread to start.

Oh, I see who started it.

LOL! Definition of irony? FOT calling my thread idiotic when he's the one who spews meaningless Tubby stats over and over and over and over and over and over and over.....

Art, no more than 3 dots allowed anymore...

Tubby really has no choice but to beat at least one of them if he wants to make the NCAA. If he doesn't beat one or the other, I'm not sure the Gophers have a resume strong enough to get into the field of 64. I know technically, he could go 14-4 in the league without beating those two and that would obviously get him in the tourney, but that also means he couldn't really stub his toe much elsewhere in the schedule. A win or two over MSU or PU would give him a little breathing room.

Considering what's happened in the B10 non conference schedule so far, anything is possible. So, I'm saying yes. We will beat one of these teams this year.

They'll get one of them at the Barn. Maybe both.

I hate Art as much as the rest of you, but this is a legitimate thread/question. It was embarrassing how overmatched we were against MSU last year, and I figured this would be the year we would make the jump into the top echelon of the conference. I think it all depends on what our roster looks like when we play the games. If Royce and Trevor are playing and are up to speed, we can beat anybody, anywhere. If they are not in the lineup, a home win will be a very mild upset and a road win will be a very large upset. Purdue is my pick to win the conference, but why is Robbie Hummel the face of the team? From what I've watched, there's two or three guys on the that team that scare me more....he's a solid player. Brian Cardinal reincarnated.

Robbie was just so good his freshman year, everyone kind of jumped on his bandwagon with the Big Ten Player of the Year thing and all that. He's definitely not the best scorer (E'twaun) or the biggest inside threat (JaJuan), but he's just the kind of guy that does everything very well, but nothing great. I think everybody saw how important he is to the team last year when he was out for 5 games and playing hurt for most of the games he could play in. Most of us in Mackey just about had a heart attack on Wednesday when a Valpo player cut Rob's legs out from under him when he was going for a rebound and he fell hard on his back/side. It was like seeing your life flash before your eyes...

I think he has become the face of the team in the national view because he was the preseason player of the year last year, but to the team and the Purdue fans, the whole Junior trio is kind of the face of the team. And Kramer is the face of the defense.

rcpratt is right. To Purdue fans we really don't have 1 guy as the face of the team. I think the reason outside of Purdue fans think that Robbie is the face of the team is that he does every thing well. IMO Hummel is the best "glue guy" in the B10 if not the entire nation.

But if you were going to ask Purdue fans who is the face of the program I think they would say it's Kramer. Simply because he embodies what Purdue basketball is all about. Defense and Hustle.

Meaningless Tubby stats? The only meaningless posts are yours dumb-ass.

Well, at least his stats are actual facts. You seem to excel in stating your opinion and then stating them as facts. But hey, one man's facts are another man's opinions and vice versa I guess.

Does it seem to anyone else we've been facing this same Purdue team for like 10 years now?!?

These are like the players that never graduate.

They are an awesome group of players. :)

I’d guess Art just wants to know whether they will win or lose so that he can make plans. If they are going to win, he’ll have some free time on his schedule. If they are going to lose, he’ll need to be here.:)

So, the 0-7 record I'm referring to is my opinion?

Thanks for the clarification.

Hopefully we can get all three of the juniors back next year :D I'm a little worried about JJ leaving, but we'll see.

Depends on whether Royce and Trevor are back. Right now it looks like Royce should be back around Big Ten season. I'm losing hope we'll see Trevor at all.

With both back, I think we split with them. With just Royce back, we'll likely win one home game. With neither back, I'd say no chance.

Lol. I'm sure they'll all be at Purdue again next year.

It's a special group and I enjoy watching them play.

Purdue and Gophers

Before the season I thought the Gophers had a chance to beat Purdue in the Barn. Now, after seeing each team play 8-9 games, Purdue should easily sweep both games. Sorry, I guess I'm biased but the Boilers manhandled the Gophs in the Barn last year and Purdue has improved since and the Gophers have not. Even with White and Mbwake, it wouldn't matter.

I was actually shocked that you were able to find one actual fact. That's not usually your style. Normally, it's "I think this way, therefore, it must be fact." But hey, maybe you're finally learning the differences between actual facts and your opinion.

Gopher teams markedly worse than this one have beaten much better teams @ Williams than the 09-10 Purdue squad.

Will they be favored? Probably not, but to say that it will be an easy win for Purdue on the road is foolish (with or without the two suspended players).

You know this isn't true. Art will never be anything more than an annoying hemorrhoid to everyone on this board.

I disagree. Purdue has not improved that much either. I am not fooled by the ranking. The only quality win in my opinion was againts TN. I think if one not both of these guys come back, Purdue will have a hard time to win this one. Also, I am not sure how Gophers were manhandled last year. The only team that had easy win against Gophers was MSU.

I'm trying to give Art the benefit of the doubt here, although I must admit I'm not sure based on the content of the majority of his posts. Having said that, it is a fact that the Gophers are 0-7 against Purdue and Michigan State under Tubby. Art is correct on that point. As to whether that grows to 0-11 or whatever, it's WAY too early to tell. And even if it wasn't all that early, it would still be difficult to tell because college basketball is a game of momentum swings during both games and during the season. At this point, I'm not really all that confident about matchups with either team. Then again, that could change depending upon our play along with the play of both the Spartans and the Boilermakers as things roll on.

So, the 0-7 record I'm referring to is my opinion?

Ok, so you have a fact. Good for you. For a guy who touts himself as a Gopher fan you sure seem to take a lot of glee in pointing out negative stats about your team. Almost like you hope Tubby gets swept again this year by MSU and PU so you can come back in a few months and point out how it is now 0-11. You'd love that, wouldn't you? Why are you always such an a$$ about stuff? You could have asked this question in a different manner and actually gotten some decent discussion going on this topic. It is a legit item to talk about. But, you're so joyful in the Gophers failures, it makes it hard to create anything but a bunch of people posting about you (as I'm doing now).

You must be a ball to hang out with at parties.

Wake Forest was also a quality opponent, which we handled easily. Have you watched any of the games? It's pretty difficult to determine if a team has improved when they're only playing mediocre competition, especially if you're only looking at box scores. The Boilers have improved a fair amount, but I know that nobody will realize this until they beat WVU.

Not that the Gophers can't beat them, I was just kidding about that. Anything can happen in college basketball.
