Do you think we'll be in the Top 25 AP or Coaches poll this year?

We will get there at some point yes.

If enough good teams with tougher schedules split the wins and losses enough, and we win on our schedule sure.

We will start 5-0 and will be ranked after that.

I'm teetering between yes and no. If we sweep the non-con, split PSU and Iowa, then go on to sweep Purdue/Maryland/Illinois/Rutgers, we're sitting at 8-1 and ranked. Last season, 8-1 UNC was #17 in the country and we may be in the same place, given we'll get little-to-no credit for our soft schedule.

If we lose both PSU and Iowa, it might be tough to be ranked at that point in the season - sitting at 7-2, with no wins over a team with a pulse, we'd probably need to win on the road at Nebraska to break into the poll (last year, Northwestern was 7-2 and #24 in the AP, but they had a win over then-#7 Stanford on their resume).

Of course, if we finish the season with 3 or fewer losses we'll almost certainly be ranked. Last year, the only P5 team at the end of the regular season to finish outside the AP top 25 with 3 or fewer losses was Georgia (9-3, #26).

We will be the first undefeated team not ranked.

National media, "But it's the Gophers."

The question is how much thought the voters put into their choices. It just seems like once you become a "name" school in college FB, you get the benefit of the doubt. But, for a school like MN that is not a name school, and has not been a regular fixture in the ratings, it's harder to be rated at the start of the season, and harder to work your way into the ratings.

if the Gophs are going to crack the top 25, they need a "signature" win over an Iowa or a Nebraska to grab people's attention.

If they beat at least one of Penn State and Iowa, I'd say that they'll probably get ranked at 7-1 or 8-1 if they can sweep through Maryland, Rutgers, Purdue, and Illinois. I think they could also get ranked at 5-0 with wins over Penn State and Iowa.
