Ranked opponent, a two game B10 winning streak, decentesque weather and the Wolves ain’t howling.

Didn’t want to give a definitive definition of what “popping” is (attendance or otherwise). We all know it when we see it🥸.

I don’t think our 2 game win streak is going to bring Gopher fans out of hibernation.

Especially for a non-conference game against Oregon. Lol

Define popping. I will say as a season ticket holder the Michigan game was similar to the small but loud crowds that were there last year. Compared to my youth though not even close to poppin

On a more serious note it seems that many of the arenas for both the men’s and women’s games, home and away, have been far less than packed? NIL disrupting interest?

Per the comments in my post, I’m not defining it🤷‍♂️.

This isn’t meant to be a serious matter; it’s light hearted and riding a couple unexpected wins = Fun

Sometimes, you gotta go with the flow😁

Recent seasons suggest that a Saturday afternoon game regardless of opponent will be at or close to the highest attendance the year. I have duty so won’t be there but I expect a good crowd, but nothing like the old days.

I'm sure this was discussed on the women's board, but watching the MN/MD womens game last week made me marvel at how anybody would want to play for Maryland. The box score lists an attendance of 5k, but based on pans across the crowd, I bet there wasn't more than 2k there. Maryland was ranked 8th in the country, playing a ranked MN team, and still nobody showed up.

The Minnesota Maryland comparison is a good one. Similar market dynamics with multi sport pro teams and they have multi division 1 options as well. I’d like to see an analysis of attendance at places that are pro sports towns and those that are not. Creighton has essentially sold out a 16,000 seat arena for years. Nebraska the same. My little experience with Iowa State says the same. And it isn’t correlated directly to winning. Competition for sports entertainment dollars is real and has an impact on attendance. Price matters too. I saw a FGCU game for $15 in row 5 center court. Not the highest level ball but a much better value than what we get in the Big 18.

The tough thing for Maryland is there's so many schools there that are better, everyone treats it as their fall back option so there just isn't a lot of pride. My dad grew up in the area.

Students are back I believe so that alone should improve the atmosphere. Will probably be one of our better crowds this season, not necessarily because of the winning streak but it certainly doesn't hurt and might draw a few fans out to check out the team.

The students will be back and that will help, but there is no rivalry (or hate) with Oregon like with the Hawkeyes and Badgers. It’s a niche group that follows this team. I’ve been surprised at how few people in my social circle had any awareness over the last week of the buzzer-beater win against Michigan. That being said, Saturday afternoon games draw better because families are more likely to attend. And, the Gophers are doing some ticket promotions. In today’s world, I don’t think they’d sell out The Barn if they were contending for the B1G. The fans who do attend regularly, however, the people around our season tickets, are up and applauding and screaming our heads off — when the Gophers are in the game!

*Students finally back on campus
*Saturday 3 PM tip (absolutely ideal)
*Decently mild weather for late January
*Surprising 2 game win streak / the boys finally starting to play better
*#15 Oregon coming into the Barn

Not saying it's going to be electric, but this should easily be the best crowd of the season. Both in numbers and in noise/intensity levels.

My second game of the season, courtesy of discount tickets bought at the State Fair. The timing (Gophers on a mini-roll) couldn't have worked out better!
