David Cobb needs 260 yards to surpass Maroney's 1464 yards, set in 2005 on 281 carries at 5.2 yards per rush.

The remaining rush defenses:
WISCONSIN 94 yds allowed/game
NEBRASKA 124 yds/game
'AHIA STATE 125 yds/game.

Collectively these teams are allowing 343 yards on the ground, on average.

My feeling, he's going to blow it away, especially considering the bowl game.

Cobb would take all wins from here on out over breaking that rushing record. He showed that Saturday with his blocking.

I think he'll get there, and hopefully he makes it extra nice hits 1500.

David Cobb is ten times the football player Larry was.

(Having said that, we'd have at least 28 more points this year with LM in the backfield.)

That's aggressive. Have we already forgotten that Maroney gave us 4,000 yards in 3 years?

So if he needs 260 more yards, that 65/game including the bowl game.

Barring injury, I don't see how he doesn't get it.

I think he will. He only had 16 carries yesterday, which is probably about 10 fewer than he normally gets. He'd have easily gone over a 100 if that were the goal yesterday, but the smart thing to do was to rest him because we have 3 straight tough games. I doubt he cares whether he breaks it or not.

Larry was, physically, a freak.

Unlike David, Larry wasn't a natural football player. He just wasn't.

He was the fastest person to ever put on a Gopher jersey probably.

Both Larry and David can play on my team anytime.

You don't get a pick, studmeister.

Hopefully he will be able to get at least half of them next week against OSU. Langford was gashing them yesterday and lanes were definitely there. Just has to be enough passing game to allow it to happen. The part that has me worried is if Mitch is off and teams can stack the box up, will there be enough room over the next 3 weeks for him to get yardage? I don't think the 260 is as easy as everyone is making it out to be, especially given Wisconsins 5th in rush D, Nebraska 18th, and OSU 19th. So those are 3 stout run D's we're facing and teams that could score points to put us down early. I think he will hit it, but the whole team has to play well for him to do it.

Just watched the replay of the game and noticed his blocking even more on those jet sweeps. He did a great job.

We will need a big game for David ( and everyone else) to win any of the remaining games. i also have a feeling he's chomping at the bit. He looked fresh yesterday, faster to the edge than I remember. I do think he's aware of the significance of not only the record but what it would mean to win these games. I think he's going to leave it all on the field for this team.

If we can pull out an upset against any of these teams it seems fitting he will go down in U history.

We were talking about that early in the game. I remarked that that's the best he's looked since Michigan.

DC appears even keeled.

I spoke with him a few hours after the game and he is (at least on the surface) even keeled about his on field success this year. over and over it is team 1st.

With 4 games left to go I would think he almost certainly gets it if he stays healthy. The only * that might go with it is that Maroney did his in 11 games and also had to share the load with Gary Russell that year. Had he been the primary back the way that Cobb is there is no telling what kind of total he could have put up.

I think Maroney put up over 1,500 yards that season.

To be fair to Maroney we also need to remember that Gary Russel rushed for over 1100 yards the same season Maroney hit 1500. So he shared the ball quite a bit. Before that he shared the ball with Barber and they both put up big numbers in previous years. That being said I hope Cobb breaks the record.

Laurence says you better pick him....

YOUR MOVE!

I like David Cobb don't get me wrong, but we are definitely forgetting about how great Laurence was and how much of an absolute game breaking weapon he could be. Laurence was a sword that could chop your head off, DC is a hammer that you beat someone to death with.

DC is a great addition to the long line of fantastic RBs to play at this great university. So will Berk, JJ and whomever else comes. We are back to the great era of Gopher Gridiron Grinders.

In the open field, no Gopher was better than Maroney.

But if I need someone to get 3 yards out of nothing, Cobb is the guy.

Cobb is very similar to MBIII that way. In fact Cobb is very similar to MBIII in a lot of ways, both were very good/great backs who's only really knock was a lack of true breakaway speed.

Maroney, MBIII, and Russell also had the best O-Line in the programs history. Cobb has a decent line. I'll still take a healthy Darrell Thompson over all of them without a second thought.

Cobb now needs 115 yards in 3 games to the rushing record. Around 39 ypg.

It's in the bag pending injury.

After tonight's NE game, I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks it in the first half next Saturday.

What a great story this guy has been. Stepped up last year and has had a phenomenal year this year! He runs angry and his yards after contact are very impressive. He's the type of back that should be very successful on Sunday's next year and beyond.

The crazy thing is there is a small chance Cobb doesn't even make it on the first or second All Big Ten team. Gordon, Abdullah, and Coleman (who quietly had 307 yards today) and shoe-ins to make one of the teams. I don't think Langford will catch Cobb in yards but he has more TD's.

I assume the coaches will find a way to make sure David makes an All Big Ten team.

Cobb sits at 1350 yards after the Nebraska game.
I think he breaks Maroney's record, but he might need the bowl game to do it.
