I think for college coaches looking to make the leap to the NFL, this might be one of the worst years to do that because of the aforementioned labor issues. Coaches will undoubtedly be fired, but if it looks like the lockout is going to stretch on into next season, then you might see a current member of that team's staff being given the head coaching reins on an extended 'interim' basis, until the labor issues get resolved and it becomes certain that there will in fact be an NFL football season next year. Those guys are already a sunk cost, because you're already paying them. It would make no sense to hire a Cowher of a Gruden or a Harbaugh or whomever and give them millions of dollars next year and then have them basically just sitting around doing very little, because labor Armageddon has hit and the season is either severely curtailed or just cancelled altogether. That would be a total bummer, but it's not out of the question at all. Things could get really hairy, and the owners seem fully prepared to lock the gates.
