Just our luck that Harbaugh or someone else may have been considering the Gopher job and then winds up with the Vikings job instead!!

I could see Harbaugh as a candidate for the Viking job, but is he even considering us? That would be about the only guy affected by the Vikings' opening in my mind.

Did you really ever think think harbaugh was, is, or ever will be considering us? Get a grip on reality

Probably not.

The Gophers could hire Nick Saban while the Vikings hire Betty Boop and guess which would attract more media coverage?

I can promise that you don't need to worry about this.

In general, the Vikings search for a coach will have no impact on the Gophers, unless they hire Kirk Ferentz. Just thought I'd be the first here to say it.

I'm guessing that since Betty Boop is a fictional entity, the Vikings hiring her would rightfully draw more media coverage.

Don't need to worry about which?

1) The Vikings considering Harbaugh
2) Harbaugh considering the Gophers
3) Harbaugh picking the Vikings over the Gophers

Chili getting fired is probably a good thing for the Gophers. All of the attention from the media is going to go to the Vikings instantaneously. Once again, the Gophers search will be under-the-rader, but this time it will be a good thing.

There is not/was not/never will be a chance Harbaugh considers the Gophers job. Stanford is a better gig at this point.

I don't think it will really change coverage all that much. Beat writers remain the same for each team and columnists have already (mostly) stated their two cents for the U. They'll wait to write again until a hire is made.

Just like the Vikings to feel threatened by the Gophers, so they go and fire their coach also.

To be honest about it, I'm not quite sure there will be an NFL job opening for Harbaugh to pursue this year. A lot of people were speculating him to end up in Dallas, but now thankfully sentiment seems in favor of Jason Garrett retaining the HC job next season, and I'm a huge Cowboys fan and am fully on board that Garrett bandwagon. We let Sean Payton get away. We need to not let that happen with Garrett, who is an even brighter coaching prospect than Payton was.

And the Vikings would seem more likely to keep it in-house and go with Frazier, no?

And beyond that, with every possibility of an NFL lockout next season, what owner in his right mind would shell out big $$$$ for a new coach and staff for a season in which there might not even be any football to coach? I think with all this labor uncertainty we are going to see a great deal of prudence and caution displayed by NFL owners regarding hirings and personnel moves.

Curious to see what the Wilfs do. They need to get a stadium built. Is Frazier an established enough "face" to help the franchise meet that goal? More will go into this decision that how good an X and O guy Frazier is, which really isn't fair to him.

He is a well respected face in MN as the Defense has been good (although not this year) for quite some time.

I dont think so. The Frazier thing never materialized, and my gut feeling from the beginning was that he would end up as the Vikings HC once Childress was let go.

I could see Harbaugh going to San Diego to replace Norv.

Not saying he isn't well respected, but is he "hot" enough?

As long as the Vikes go 3-3 or better, I think Frazier keeps the job, especially if the new CBO isn't in place by season's end. With regards to the stadium, there's no doubt going and getting Cowher or Dungy would add more buzz, but I think it will happen this session, unless the lock-out is still going on in May. If it is, I don't see how it passes in 2011. I think (hope) most legislators are smart enough to see that this is a long-term issue that should not be based on who the coach was on 2011 or what the record was in 2010.

I think for college coaches looking to make the leap to the NFL, this might be one of the worst years to do that because of the aforementioned labor issues. Coaches will undoubtedly be fired, but if it looks like the lockout is going to stretch on into next season, then you might see a current member of that team's staff being given the head coaching reins on an extended 'interim' basis, until the labor issues get resolved and it becomes certain that there will in fact be an NFL football season next year. Those guys are already a sunk cost, because you're already paying them. It would make no sense to hire a Cowher of a Gruden or a Harbaugh or whomever and give them millions of dollars next year and then have them basically just sitting around doing very little, because labor Armageddon has hit and the season is either severely curtailed or just cancelled altogether. That would be a total bummer, but it's not out of the question at all. Things could get really hairy, and the owners seem fully prepared to lock the gates.

The only thing the Childress firing does is create one more name to be ignored.
