Wisconsin isn't as good as projected in the preseason. That's been clear since the UNLV game.

However...

This team seems to tend to deal with frustrating performances by rebounding and paying it forward the following game. In fact, that same feeling seems to be especially thick in the air around here this week. The fans are pissy, the players are angry and the coaches are ornery.

After losing to Ohio State on the road last year, Wisconsin shut-out Purdue.
After losing to Northwestern in Evanston last year, Wisconsin dominated Miami.
After sloppy play against Arizona State, the Badgers exercised their frustrations by destroying poor Austin Peay by 67 points.
We just lost a winnable game to MSU and it's Homecoming/Minnesota week.

I can say with certainty that no one here is looking ahead to OSU yet, especially with the bad taste still in our mouths from MSU. The talk of everyone in Madison is calling for a relentless shellacking of Minnesota to clean up the mess and get back on track.

I think this could get ugly for the Gophs... if you're coming to the game I think you'll pick up on the sentiment I'm talking about and agree. There's a very bitter sort of focus that in the past has lead to some punishing performances.

Good luck though!

Have you watched the gophs at all this season?

I don't care if the Sconnies play the worst game that they've played all year. There is no way that you win this game by less than two scores. I just don't see it. This team has a worse offense than the 2007 team with a defense equally as sieve. Why you would even post such a thread is beyond me. No freakin' duh we aren't going to win! In other news though... the sky is blue.

Why dont you come to the iowa board and pick on someone your own size. Since that game is in Kinnick we'll see how you feel about that game when the time comes.

I watched that msu/bucky game and maybe i missed something, but how was that winnable?

msu kept turning it over and still dominated the game......they'd have rolled up 50 if they can even slightly hold onto the ball

and of course bucky will be up for this one.....they don't dare lose it or they are starting 0-3

In other news...

Alert the media, have you heard about the Lindbergh baby?

You (very likely) will win, yes.

But it has nothing to do with wisconsin.

It has everything to do with the fact that, under Brewster, this team has never had a nose for the win. We never have that killer instinct to put away the win. Even if we somehow keep it close and compete evenly for 58 minutes, we will (likely) find some new and exciting way to lose.

Northwestern did not play to win their game against us last week, but Brewster has shown a keen aptitude for trumping other teams' losing efforts, and bringing that big "L" home to Dinkytown. When it comes to games in which this Minnesota team plays, it does not matter who is better at winning, the question is "are you good enough losers to lose to Minnesota?". I don't think you are necessarily winners, but you aren't losers in the way that we are.

After losing to Ohio State on the road last year, Wisconsin <s>shut-out Purdue</s> lost by double digits to Iowa at home.
After losing to Northwestern in Evanston last year, Wisconsin dominated <s>Miami</s> 6-7 Hawaii.
After sloppy play against Arizona State, the Badgers played a bad Austin Peay team.

Wow, you didn't even get half of the next games opponents right and completely ignored a home loss in this trend, and the only wins WI had to show how they rebounded after one loss were against poor competition. So let's see how this theory that this team gets angry and bounces right back after losing holds up after looking at a bit larger of a sample size with 2008.

They lose a close game at Michigan and follow it up with losing a close game at home against Ohio State.
They follow up the close loss to Ohio State by being blown out at home by Penn State.
They rebound from being blown out by only losing by 22 to Iowa.
Follow up loss to Iowa by beating Illinois who will finish 5-7.
They lose to MSU, bounce back by getting to play Indiana.
Blown out by FSU, take out all the anger that builds up during the offseason.

It looks like Wisconsin bounces back from tough losses once they play teams that aren't very good. So the real trend is they're a middle of the pack Big Ten team that plays very well against bad teams but isn't competitive against top competition.

Wisconsin will probably win this game, but it won't be any testament to the will of their team, it will be because they're playing a bad Minnesota team before they go back to losing to good Big Ten teams.

There's always hope. While walking to the stadium, the Badger players might get distracted by a dead deer...

This whole time I was under the impression that Minnesota is really bad.

Good luck though!

BS. I know you don't mean it.

Just order up one of these inflatable deer to keep you busy until Saturday.

Post of the year! Combining hope for a Gopher victory, zoophilia and necrophilia in a single one line post - priceless!

C'mon Brewster try the bounce pass so we can call it the Brewsterooski! it is a hell of legend

Either way... the overall point is that we aren't looking ahead to Ohio State.

If we had won in East Lansing would we be looking past a 1-4 Brewster-coached Gopher team? Absolutely, but the reality is that our team was terribly exposed, we dropped 10 spots in the poll and our prime time night game against OSU went from being a top College Game Day candidate to being a regular 6:00pm game on ESPN. No one thinks we are ready yet for the type of game that will come when Ohio State rolls in and really, the focus seems to be in getting the hype and excitement back in the program, fans and media. Incidentally, a big Homecoming win for The Axe seems to be the right medicine and it is creating a big buzz around campus. It'll be a packed stadium with students and fans bringing their friends from across the boarder and they will be anxious as ever to see the Badgers pound the other side into the ground. It's no different than any recent year, and furthermore, I would say it seems for some reason to be more intensified than past years even though the game is relatively meaningless (again) because only one team is ranked. I will acknowledge that the Gophers have played Bielema's teams close the past few years, but this year will be a much different environment because due to where both programs are at this point in the season.

I agree. Minnesota is near the bottom of their slide, while Wisconsin is just beginning theirs!

If the game is so meaningless this weekend...why did you bother to logon to Gopherhole to post a message?

Because BB is almost as bad at beating ranked teams as TB. Those loses sting a lot more in Madison than they do in MN.

Respectfully speaking, you're not getting it. It's great, grand and wonderful that you all are so pumped about potentially beating a really bad Gopher team. But the point remains the same: Beating this Gopher team, whether it be by 7 points or 70 points, isn't going to prove anything to anybody. All it will mean is that our team is just plain bad. But I'd like to congratulate you on so politely articulating why the Badgers are going to kick the crap out of the Gophers this weekend. That's definitely a step up from most of the drunkards in Madison.
