UCLA are fools for replacing him with Alford. Just on CBS and said he wants to coach. Unlike Tubby, he actually produced at UCLA: 4 conference championships, 7 NCAA tourneys in 10 years with 3 final fours! 2 Big East conference titles in 4 years. There aren't a half dozen coaches in the country with that resume.

Yes Rubes, I know UCLA is in a different stratosphere for recruiting and expectations but we are not going to find a better candidate at this point.

That's below expectations at UCLA.

It's obvious that we could, and probably will, do worse. I'd take him right now. What he did at Pitt alone is more impressive then Andy freaking Enfield.

Very good interview with Howland. Nothing but good things to say about Alford and UCLA. Really can't see it happening at the U for PR reasons.

You are crazy to believe he would entertain the thought of joining the Gophers. No way. We will be lucky to land a second or third tier coach.

I can't see the U hiring the coach fired from the school you just beat by 20 points in the NCAA Tournament.

I was commenting on the PR hit when you hire the coach of a team you just beat by 20 points.

That is silly. If there was anything behind some of the things in the SI story, that would be a far bigger issue.

Going by memory (always risky), but the SI story was a bunch of BS attempt to justify the firing. Who gives a F if Howland has idiosyncrasies or is socially awkard. He wants the temperature at XXF, the water bottles have to be a certain size, he used a sneaky trick to get a player removed from a game, he didn't socialize with his players. BFD. A major reach by some no talent, no name, scum sucking reporter.

IMO, UCLA made a big mistake.

Sorry - been bugging me for a while.

Do you blame Tubby for the countless transfers we had? Multiply that by 50 and you have Ben Howland.

Guys transfer out of UCLA like it was coached by 6 Tubby's.

3 Final Fours in 10 years; who cares about transfers.
No better than 6th in your conference in 6 years? Transfers are a big deal.

Tubby won 5 conference titles, 1 national championship, 10 NCAA appearances (never missed it), 4 Elite Eights at Kentucky. If you think Howland doing well at UCLA means he'd do well here, Tubby arguably was more impressive at Kentucky, and here you are bashing him in your post, so I'm not sure what makes you like Howland but not Tubby.

Because 1 game should mean anything.

Dan Monson and Jerry Kill were both hired after seasons in which their teams beat us. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Ben Howland would not really excite me, but I agree that not hiring him just because we beat them in the tournament wouldn't be the right way to go about it.

Please hire Tim Floyd now. He will actually take the job and has proven to be a winner.

Howland Would be a Very Good Hire

That's below expectations at UCLA.

Howland has been a very good coach over the years at Pittsburgh and UCLA.He does not have any buyout $ amount to pay. He is a very well respected coach for good reason. I think he could be a steal at this time. I believe the boosters could support him as well.

I was very much on board with Flip. He was the best fit at this time. Lets not reach for an unproven coach ---- too risky in my opinion. Let hire Ben Howland!!

Howland is a top dollar coach who will owe UCLA a nice chunk of his contract termination cash if he coaches next season

If that is true wouldn't tubby owe the u of m the same thing if he ends up at Texas tech?

Ucla contract says 3.5 Million payoff subject to mitigation if he gets hired.. Tubby's contract ??
