If Mullen came from a smaller school, he would be much more appealing. But because he has been at Mississippi State for only two years, hiring him makes me think of a guy who gets married in June and is already hitting on every female in the office by October. If he is interested for the money, he is greedy. He had a player die on his team this year. If he leaves at a like that, he is a phony. IF he leaves after only two years, he is not very committed. If he has any success at MN, he will walk just as fast. Would be a bad hire. Hae to question his character. I think he is just using the situation to try to get a raise at MSU.

Like Murray Warmath when he left Mississippi State after two years to come to Minnesota?

If he has any success at MN in his first 2 years, it will be with Brewsters recruits!

A player dying is out of his control, and in no way should hold him back. If he has any success he will have improved the program, so I'll take that. We don't know who will go or who will stay with success, after all, were hiring these guys based on their success right now.

I think Lou Holz left here to coach tens years and a national championship at ND. Would be a spectacular hire.

I think Vince Lombardi is overrated. If he was still in his coaching prime I wouldn't hire him. Not good enough for our beloved Gophers.

If leaving your current job after 2 years for a similar job that pays double is mercenary, then I think most of the posters on this board are mercenaries.

+1000

I'd take a dump on my current bosses lawn for a job that pays double my salary.

Then who would you suggest? Except for a previous Gopher coach you seem to dislike any potential coach mentioned?

:banghead:

Who knows what his motives would be:
1) Money
2) Mpls > Starkville
3) SEC politics is forcing him out
4) This his chances of winning are greater @MN than at MSU where he has to compete with Bama, Auburn, LSU and Arkansas in his division and is always 2nd fiddle to Ole Miss for instate recruits.

Bottom line is that we don't know what his motives are but I'd be happy to have him.

Wait just a second. While Mullen's upside is enormous, he has only been a head coach for two years... not exactly a proven head coach.

In the end though, I would definitely support this hire. He has yet to become a "really good head coach" though, in my eyes.

Well if he would be the type of coach you speak of he wouldn't be looking at jobs like MN, he would be looking at the Florida and Alabama types. You don't prove yourself for 5 years of Miss St. then move onto MN. NO, at MN you have to take a chance on these guys early. If he had become a "really good head coach" with more years under his belt he'd be out of our league!!

Very good point. We are not exactly in a position to hire both an up-and-comer and a proven guy. That luxury only belongs to the very elite.

do we really want to hire a coach who might be involved with the whole cam newton controversy? I would take him as a coach any day, but knowing that this might follow him is a huge red flag.

All I need to know

Mullen is staying at Miss State, but all I need to know is he is considering that those in the SEC consider him THE up and coming coach, Minnesota would have been very lucky to have him.
