-They've beaten two nobodies (W. Mich. and E. Mich.)

-Barely beat an extremely overrated Notre Dame team.

-Barely beat the concensus last place team in the Big Ten, Indiana. (Remember Indiana has gotten outplayed by . Ketucky and W. Mich. at home)

-All these games were at home.

Some how this equates to the #22 team in the country? The Badgers have a better resume.

Because they are the University of Michigan, that's pretty much the only reason. College football purists keep thinking that if Michigan and Notre Dame are good, college football is good (which is a little ridiculous as this season has been great). That's why Notre Dame was ranked in the teens early in the season and Lou Holtz was predicting a National Championship.

It all stems from your second point. They beat Notre Dame when Notre Dame was overrated, and they reaped the benefits. Look at Iowa, even if Penn State tanks and loses 3 more games this year (which I think it definitely possible) Iowa will already be in a better position due to their inflated standing.

AKA, preseason polls are junk.

The same thing would have been true if we beat Cal when they were #8. Were they that good? Apparently not judging by the Oregon game. But we still would have vaulted in to the Top 25 with that win.

Exactly. We would've been in the top 25 for sure with a win over Cal, and once you're there, you need to lose to fall out (realistically).

or beat a IAA team because of two blocked field goals to end the game...

Notre Dame was way overrated, which translated to an overly high ranking after their victory. That's all.

As much as I am torn to say it, Michigan is going to walk into a buzz saw next weekend when it plays a night game in Iowa City. Then they might fall from the rankings for a while.

I sure hope so... Its neigh unbearable over here.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I watched a replay of Indiana/Michigan, and Indiana looks much better than last year.
