The NCAA needs to get more involved in scheduling. Require teams to play at least 40% of their non-conference games with "name big" conferences. And make it home and home not at far away destinations. My rant will never fly but it sure would be nice to have three big name schools play at Williams each year during the non-conference season.

the regular season schedule has nothing to do with exhibitions.

Because it's a way for schools to stick it to their season ticket holders for 2 extra gate receipts while at the same time having to pay a D2, D3 or NAIA school next to nothing to be the fodder.

Your title is a different issue - 2 exhibitions is purely a choice and one that I am generally not in favor of. I'd prefer 0 exhibitions. Schools can have 0, 1 or 2 - their choice.

As for scheduling, the NCAA is involved. See Iowa last year, right? It's clear the tournament selection committee considers strength of schedule. Your best bet is to take it up with your favorite schools.

Exhibitions are just about building relationships. WI generally invites the D3 teams to play at the Kohl Center as a way of connecting across the State. I'd love to see the U play exhibitions against Mankato, St. Cloud, Duluth, Winona, etc... and give kids and families from around the State a chance to watch the locals go against the big boys. It's just about having fun while giving a chance to work out the kinks before the season begins. Have fun with it and enjoy.

You're right on. There has been some sort of rotating schedule with schools for the Northern Sun Conference (DII). I happen to have a Winona State alum and fan (but also a HUGE Gopher fan) so watching my two favorite teams square off a few times has been great.

Plus, when WSU beat the Gophers in 2006, it was the only time I rooted against the Maroon and Gold. :)
