I'd go with:
Hoffarber, Hollins, Williams, Mbakwe, Sampson.

Minutes:
Hoffarber and Mbakwe 35+
Sampson and Williams 30-35
Iverson 25
Hollins 15-20
Armelin 10-15
Ahanmisi 5-10

I'd substitute Armelin for Hollins. I think he should be rewarded for his play against Michigan.

minutes played

Hoff 35
Mbak 32
RS3 30
RW 28
Iverson 25
Chip 20
Hollins 18
Mav 12

I would start Chip in place of Hollins and I would take those minute breakdowns right now but... fouls can (will) be a factor.

Coach has consistently played Hollins ahead of Chip off the bench, he also has a few starts. I don't see that changing.

Chip is probably 6'-1 1/2" that is part of it.

It's one or the other IMO. I'd have to give the starting nod to Chip though.

What I don't want to see is all 3 bigs on the floor for much (if any) of the time. None of them would have the space to play to their strengths.

I can see Hollins coming off the bench because he is also capable of playing and defending at the 3 position.

I think you divvied up the minutes okay, but I'm thinking Trevor will come off the bench again tonight. .....My bad. Your question was who would I start tonight. Not who would Tubby start tonight. I like your lineup.

^^ This.

starters

I'd think because Mav can play back up point guard and Hollins can play the 2 or 3. It would be best to start Chip with Hoff. Although I like Chip comming in and shocking people with his quickness and athleticism.

I say you still go with HOff, Chip, Rodney, Sampson, and Iverson. You put Iverson on Markovic and Sampson on Shurna. Chip on Thompson, Rodney on Crawford, Hoff on Cobb. Off the bench you have Trevor at the 4 or 5. Hollins for 2 or 3. And Mav can play the point.

This might be the one game you go with a small lineup and try and push the pace with Trevor at 5, Rodney at 4, Hollins, Hoff, and chip. They are weak inside.

I know this is crazy but, I want Ahanmisi to start. His turnovers are probably the concern, but I'd like to see our last actual point guard get a chance (not to mention that he actually has a jump shot)

I would start whoever Tubby says, and go from there. :banghead:

I agree. Challenge him to play well. Give him a shot and have him earn the role. I'd give it a couple games and, if this is the way Tubby goes, he will probably have a longer leash (i.e., won't get pulled after first bonehead turnover).

It's time to see what Mav can do, if he is given the reins.

I know many of you doubt he can handle it. You may be right.

I'm with you guys. I think you start Mav. You can always move Hoff over to the 1 if things aren't working out. However, I wouldn't have Mav at 1 without Hoff at 2 to keep things steady. Chip is the superior ball handler IMO.

I'm surprised you'd want that lineup with the 3 big men out there for that long. Our 3 point defense like that against a team like NW really scares me.

I'd go with:
Hoffarber, Hollins, Williams, Mbakwe, Sampson.

It is time for either Hollins or Armelin to step up their game. I would not be surprised to see one of them (maybe Armelin) break out and surprise us. It will be almost impossible to completely replace what Nolen provides with Sr. leadership, defense, etc. But I have some faith that one or both of these two will step up just fine. No doomsday here.

Huffbarber, Willemz, Simpson, Mbackway, Iveerson

Minutes:
Huffbarber, Mbackway 35
Simpson 30
Iveerson 25
Willemz, Howlings, Arm-melon 20
Ahandmixer 15

Make sure you have a designated driver and don't pass out before the game starts.

http://www.gophersports.com//pdf8/734547.pdf predicts Williams, Sampson, Iverson, Hoffarber, and Ahanmisi.

Of course, that release also says that Northwestern is 13-5 on the year, which is incorrect.

I can understand that if you look at the minutes I listed it might appear that the 3 'bigs' are out there together a lot, but actually it works out to only a minimum of ~5 minutes together.

I'd start Hollins (if he doesn't have a sour stomach tonight) for a few reasons, including (a) I like his length, especially against NW who, after their PG, jumps up to 6'5"... and they are a team that can start off hot, which we do not need; (b) I like his bball IQ / skills combination better than Chip and Mav; (c) I like him shooting the three within the offense more than anyone else besides Hoffarber (yes - Ahanmisi should take wide open, uncontested three, but that's about it)... granted Hollins hasn't looked very good for what seems like months.

Chip scares me - athletically he's terrific and can school some* defenders. But, he's a wild man and a chucker. If they can get him under control, he could be a contributor in future years, but right now I don't want jumpshots coming from him... my preference would be to get some things going early for Sampson and Hoffarber on offense.. if we are unable to score, if you want to toss Chip out there and let the young man try to create something, go ahead.. but I'd like that coming from the bench tonight. Then again, if Hollins is still feeling ill, it's a moot (or as GH's like to say, mute) point.

More than anything, though, I'd just like a win. If Josh Gasser can get a triple double against Northwestern, then Maverick Ahanmisi should be able to as well.

Makes sense. I'd like to see more of Chip against this zone though. When we aren't getting the ball inside, the only way we can do anything is if someone can drive. Chip seems to be the only one who can somewhat do that, although he does get out of control at times.

I have to say, Tubby attacked NW's 1-3-1 (save for a couple minutes) with a surgeon's scalpel, an absolute pleasure after the last several meetings. You have to give coach some credit for the ease of this win. Great job passing over, around and through the zone, using the big men at the top-of-the key to trigger the offense, resulting in many easy baskets. I was actually surprised Carmody didn't revert to a tight zone to force us to shoot over them.

In any event, I think it's safe to say that the starting lineup vs. Purdue will be the same.

My suggestion sucked, as Mav looked pretty bad and justifiably sat. Maybe he'll do better against a more conventional defense. I don't know though.....early returns have Blake as the heavy favorite at PG.
