It will be either Mullen or Hoke.

Why?

Hoke:

Hasn't really denied it. Maturi, Mona and Brunik have been there interviewing him according to reports. Student newspaper at San Diego all be assumed that he will be at Minnesota. Maturi has said we will know before the Holidays (Christmas) and in my opinion are just waiting for Dec 16 when the buyout clause on Hoke's contract drops by $500,000.00. Also, if true, it was reported that someone overheard Brunik say "We have our man"

BUT in the Background Mullins name keeps popping up.

My Son who graduated from Florida where Mullen was OC and also a Big Gopher Fan Says:

"I’m hoping the Gophers go hard after Dan Mullen – I think he’s a star in the making, the kind of guy who could put a second deck on The Bank."

IMHO it's Hoke

The sources in San Deigo confirm that. Since the buyout drops by $500,000 after Dec. 15th it will be after Dec. 15th before the announcement is made. I love his background. He's a proven winner at Michigan, Ball State and now San Deigo State. If it weren't for Harbaugh, he would wait on the Michigan job but he knows Harbaugh is a lock for the Michigan job. He is a Great fit for Minnesota. This is a great catch for us!

If it is Hoke, you don't wait two weeks to save $500k -- a lot of potentially disastrous things can happen in two weeks. Also, SDSU is probably willing to negotiate the price so as to avoid getting a late start on their search for a replacement.

I'm very much hoping it's Mullen, personally.

I agree that waiting can add risk, but is is possible that MN and Hoke have signed a contract with an effective date of 12/16 which would in essence limit MN's risk?

If it's any of the names that have surfaced - these two are a good guess.

I still think it's someone that hasn't been mentioned. I think it's been that person all along.

Where in Hokes record do you see proven winner?

Maybe they are waiting for Singletary to get fired.

I'm with you on this.......

Harbaugh and Gruden are my dark horses.

There has been way too much "no way", "never happen" around Harbaugh.

He is reportedly skipping the 25 year championship reunion dinner.
That seems like an odd move for somebody who is thinking about a position there.

We have NO idea who Maturi and Mona met in California beyond Hoke. They could have met with three different groups for all we know. They could have met with Belotti's people as well.

I honestly DO believe it is going to be somebody that has received little or no chatter up to this point, and it will be an eyebrow raising announcement. I think that person was locked and loaded from the beginning.

The only question has been the reasoning for the delay. I waffle between contract negotiations and bowl announcements. I have no idea how much of an impact a coach leaving would have on the human polls.

At this point in time, I would rank their likelihood as follows:

1. Hoke
2. Edsall
3. Mullen

Hoke has been a winner as the OC at Michigan and as HC at Ball State and SDSU.

With Games this weekend Could it be off Radar?

Could it be one of these guys

Jerry Kill
Greg Schiano
Carl Polini
Brent Venables
Mike Stoops

This. If our AD was almost anyone else, I'd be certain they wouldn't wait two weeks like this. But it's entirely too believable that we are indeed just sitting there waiting, risking him changing his mind and losing 2/3 of the recruiting window.
